**About the Role**
Customer Obsession builds the intelligence layer that minimizes customer defects across Uber Rides, Uber Eats, and all our products. You will tackle a core problem: replacing fragmented, manual support with reliable, AI-driven automation at massive scale. This requires building extensible systems that anticipate user needs before they become tickets. This is a demanding technical environment, pioneering large projects like new automation platforms. Success requires systems thinking and the grit to ship reliable, high-volume code in a constantly changing domain. You will directly influence how Uber fosters long-term trust and loyalty with millions of users globally.
\-\-\-- **What you will Do** ----
1. Design and implement innovative AI/ML solutions to drive automation and significantly reduce customer-facing defects.
2. Writes high-quality code (i.e., reliable, readable, efficient, testable), provides quality code reviews, and creates comprehensive tests and quality documentation using software engineering principles.
3. Participates in on-call rotations and follows best practices to troubleshoot production incidents with some guidance.
4. Monitors product quality in the production environment, identifying, triaging and fixing bugs and inefficiencies.
\-\-\-- **Basic Qualifications** ----
1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
2. Architecture skills: Knowledge of data structures and an eye for architecture. Ability to discuss the tradeoff between architectural choices, both on a theoretical and applied level.
3. High coding standards (TDD, Clean Code).
4. Proven track record within a production environment.
5. A phenomenal teammate approach: Believes in achieving more as a team, relies on others' feedback for continuous improvement.
6. Understanding business and design requirements, attention to detail leading to a delightful user experience.
\-\-\-- **Preferred Qualifications** ----
1. Proven experience designing and shipping scalable backend microservices, including expertise with gRPC or REST API development.
2. Minimum 3+ years of experience in hands-on software development, focusing on large-scale distributed systems.
3. Minimum 1+ year of direct experience applying AI-powered tools and frameworks in line with modern industry practices and innovation trends.
4. Expert proficiency in at least one modern object-oriented programming language, such as Java or Go.
5. Operational expertise in monitoring, troubleshooting, and tuning performance for high-throughput, mission-critical production services.
For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$171,000 per year - USD$190,000 per year.
For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$171,000 per year - USD$190,000 per year.
For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
