This system supports researchers across The Texas A&M University System. By maintaining and improving Maestro, our employees serve a critical role in advancing the university's research goals. What We Want We currently have multiple opportunities for Software Engineers at a variety of experience levels. These roles are essential to the mission of the Research Information Systems (RIS) department—also known as MAESTRO—which supports Sponsored Research Services (SRS) through the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Maestro enterprise information system. Maestro serves researchers across The Texas A&M University System, and by enhancing and sustaining this system, our team plays a critical role in advancing the university’s research goals. As part of the RIS team, employees will contribute to the design, development, testing, documentation, and maintenance of full‑stack applications and relational databases that power Maestro. New team members will receive training and guidance as they learn the systems, tools, and processes that support sponsored research. Required Education and Experience Qualifications for a Software Engineer + Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Qualifications for a Senior Software Engineer + Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. + Two years of software development experience. Preferred Qualifications Software Engineer + Experience with Java or similar programming languages + Develops, tests, and implements software solutions using Spring Boot, Angular, PL/SQL, and related technologies under the guidance from senior team members. + Learns and assists in the evaluation and development of tools, workflows, or processes to support departmental operations and the delivery of the Maestro modules using Kubernetes, Bitbucket, Jira, Confluence, Jenkins, and other technologies. + Assists in troubleshooting, debugging, and enhancing existing applications. + Ability to meet deadlines and maintain a high level of accuracy, professionalism, and customer service orientation. + Participates in team agile ceremonies like sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives. + Strong problem-solving skills. + Learns and keeps up to date with research administration processes and procedures. Senior Software Engineer + Provides technical leadership in software engineering and system design using Spring Boot, Angular, PL/SQL, and emerging technologies; drives architectural decisions and establishes best practices for scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions. + Participate in team agile ceremonies like sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives to foster collaboration and improve workflow. + Evaluate, design, and improve tools, workflows, or processes to support departmental operations and the delivery of the Maestro modules using Kubernetes, Bitbucket, Jira, Confluence, Jenkins and other technologies. + Keeps up to date with research administration processes and procedures. + Participates in mentoring, training, and development of other employees. + Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills + Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others + Ability to meet deadlines and maintain a high level of accuracy, professionalism, and customer service orientation. + Strong problem-solving skills. Responsibilities Software Engineer: + Assists in developing routine RIS applications and relational databases to include design, writing, installing, debugging, troubleshooting, documenting, and/or testing (full stack) based on user requirements and analysis using Spring Boot, Angular, Java, PL\SQL. Development Operations + Assists in efforts to setup, configure, and maintain RIS servers. + Maintains familiarity with version control (Bitbucket) and containerization (Podman). + Assists with preparing RIS system and program documentation for clients and technical staff. + Assists with development and execution of unit tests and functional tests for MAESTRO modules. + Maintains issues and issue lifecycle using JIRA. Quality Assurance + Gives recommendations for the improvement of the code and application structure. + Provides technical input for coding in accordance with established standards. Professional Development + Keeps current in professional growth. Keeps current on state/university rules and regulations with regards to technical responsibilities. Follows policies, procedures, and various standards. Senior Software Engineer: + Develops low-to-moderately complex RIS applications and relational databases to include design, writing, installing, debugging, troubleshooting, documenting, and/or testing (full stack) based on user requirements and analysis using Spring Boot, Angular, Java, PL\SQL. Development Operations + Sets up, configure, and maintains RIS servers. + Maintains familiarity with version control (Bitbucket) and containerization (Podman). + Prepares RIS system and program documentation for clients and technical staff. + Develops and executes of unit tests and functional tests for MAESTRO modules. + Maintains issues and issue lifecycle using JIRA. Quality Assurance + Gives recommendations for the improvement of the code and application structure. + Provides technical input for coding in accordance with established standards. + May play the role of Product Owner for low-to-moderately complex Maestro components, to ensure quality is met. Mentor + Participates in mentoring, training, and development of other employees. Professional Development + Keeps current in professional growth.
