Job Description
The Software Design Engineer in Test 4 (SDET 4) will play a key role in securing the Windows operating system by developing, implementing, and maintaining advanced testing activities. This role is part of a team focused on reducing security gaps—including initiatives like NTLM less authentication and Secure Future Initiative (SFI) efforts—to strengthen Windows' security posture by default.
The engineer will design and build automation test frameworks, create scenario level automated test cases, troubleshoot failures, and ensure high quality test execution for critical security components.
Typical Day in the Role
• Understand end to end user authentication flows and related security concepts
• Build and enhance automation test frameworks supporting scenario level test coverage
• Incrementally add new scenario level automated tests
• Execute test plans and troubleshoot issues
• Collaborate with world class OS security experts
• Support key security initiatives under the Secure Future Initiative (SFI)
Key Responsibilities
• Execute test plans, scenarios, scripts, and procedures
• Test system modifications to prepare for implementation
• Develop test programs addressing database impacts, software scenarios, and usability
• Document software defects using a bug tracking system and communicate fix needs
• Identify, analyze, and document functional or content related issues
• Track and monitor bug resolution progress
• Maintain databases of known test defects
• Plan test schedules and testing strategies aligned with project deliverables

Skills and Requirements
• Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field (required)
• 8–10 years of relevant software testing experience
• Strong experience writing test documentation (test plans, scripts, results)
• Ability to interpret test results and recommend improvements
• Preferred (not required):
o Operating system knowledge
o Cybersecurity exposure
o Experience with automation test frameworks
