Your Opportunity
Join a Top 10 global integrated design firm in our Houston Buildings practice that provides Architecture, Buildings Engineering, and Interior Design services with a long history and deep commitment to the Healthcare sector. Our Houston office is seeking an architect or architectural graduate to join our Healthcare Special Projects Team, focused primarily on small to medium-sized projects in existing hospital environments. Prior experience with healthcare projects is preferred.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Support the planning, organization, and delivery of small to medium healthcare projects including complex renovations in occupied hospitals, shell space fit-outs, and equipment replacements.
- Develop, modify, and coordinate architectural drawings and models using BIM/Revit across all phases, with a focus on renovation and existing-conditions documentation.
- Assist with interpretation and application of healthcare-related building codes, accessibility requirements, and regulatory standards.
- Assist with preparation and coordination of specifications, constructability reviews, and QA/QC efforts.
- Coordinate closely with consultants, proactively communicating schedule updates, new tasks, and open issues to maintain momentum and alignment. Deliver critical information to consultants early so work can proceed efficiently.
- Participate in client meetings, consultant coordination, and internal team meetings.
- Prepare clear, well-organized meeting notes and action items using an outline-based format
- Help track project scope, schedules, and budgets, contributing to overall project organization and delivery.
- Visit project sites as needed to understand existing conditions and support design and construction efforts.
- Support construction administration activities including review of submittals, RFIs, site observation reports, documentation of field conditions, and preparation of record documents.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Detailed understanding of all phases of architectural document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
- General knowledge of building construction systems means and methods, materials, coordination with engineering disciplines and industry standards.
- Ability to develop floor plans, wall sections, and details and to build a document set from Schematic Design through Construction Documents.
- Willingness to check own work for accuracy and completeness
- Capable of managing time to meet project budget and schedule while collaborating in a project team setting through all phases of architectural document production.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with a natural ability to track tasks, issues, and decisions across multiple projects.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, juggling multiple projects where priorities may change daily—and able to pivot quickly without losing clarity or follow-through.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with particular strength in clear documentation and formatting.
- Working knowledge of architectural document production across all phases, particularly for healthcare renovations and work in existing buildings.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with project teams, consultants, and clients.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and common architectural tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Newforma (or similar).
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture required.
- Licensure is not required, but interest in pursuing architectural licensure is strongly encouraged.
- Prior healthcare experience is preferred; experience with renovations, interiors, or existing buildings is a plus.
- Years of experience can be flexible based on demonstrated capability, organization, and motivation. 5-years minimum experience is preferred.
Why This Role is a Great Opportunity for You
- Work on many projects at once, gaining broader exposure and responsibility than you might on a single large project.
- Learn quickly through hands-on involvement, supported by mentorship from senior project architects and technical experts.
- Collaborate with world-class medical planners, interior designers, and specialized subject matter experts.
- Grow your career within a firm that offers flexibility—opportunities to work on other project types, transition to a large-projects team, or explore other design sectors over time.
- Be part of a supportive, fast-moving team where learning, growth, and collaboration are built into the culture.
