Role Definition:
Individual contributor with ability to serve on projects and assignments and perform very complex simulations individually and/or in a team environment with accountability on quality, velocity and cost and that support.
Virtual Product Development (Simulation) division in India comprising a group of 300 highly educated and talented engineer functioning from multiple locations in line with corporate global footprint strategy and providing simulation support to Caterpillar’s global business units in Structural, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Engine and Machine Performance Simulation areas.
Responsibilities:
The Simulation Sr. Associate Engineer will be accountable for evaluating designs, provide design recommendation and improve the existing process. This position performs complex analysis work, identifies and resolves problems. Incumbents may work more directly with different units, suppliers, customers, and/or other teams and begin enhancing general and business skills. This requires the ability to communicate technical information in a concise and accurate manner. Decisions may significantly enhance Caterpillar product performance, durability, quality, reliability, and serviceability; negotiations with suppliers; leveraging new technologies; warranty; total cost of non-quality; costs; sales; and customer perception.
Success factors for the Simulation Sr. Associate Engineer include demonstrating excellent analytical skills and a mastery of engineering concepts. Major challenges facing incumbents are meeting goals for velocity, quality, and managing multiple priorities. This position must keep up-to date on changing customer needs as the project progresses, stay current with new technology, and provide guidance and direction on the project to less experienced engineers. Incumbents may be expected to bear significant responsibility for completion of a project with major focus on delivery.

The Simulation Sr. Associate Engineer must manage their own development, continuously learn through experience and staying abreast of technology. Key skills to be developed at this level are data extraction/analysis, failure analysis and problem solving, application of simulation tools and methods, and practical application of theory and concepts.
Degree Requirement: Degree required:
Post-graduation/PhD from reputed institute in Mechanical / Automotive / Aerospace Engineering with specialization in the fields of fluid and thermal sciences. Candidate is expected to have strong background in Engine performance, heat transfer, turbulence and numerical methods.
Skill Descriptors:
The analyst will be responsible for working with business unit customers to help define and plan 1D and 3D-CFD analysis projects, performing analysis as per plan, and communicating results and recommendations.
Technical Excellence:
· Prior experience in 1D and 3D CFD modeling (PhD/MTech with 3-5 years of industrial experience)
· Knowledge of underlying theoretical principles of Mechanical Engineering
· Good understanding of Fluid Mechanics & Heat Transfer and Engine fundamentals
· Strong knowledge of Multiphase flow and turbulence models
· Experience in working with global teams in engine development
· Experience with internal & external flow, Conjugate heat transfer including radiation, multiphase flow and Transient analysis preferably in automotive / aerospace domain
· Strong experience in Star CCM+ / ANSYS Fluent
· Strong experience in modelling in 1D Gt-Suite for Lube, Fuel and cooling systems and Engine performance
· Strong knowledge of optimization, ML concepts
· Expertise in the development of Reduced Order Modelling techniques for CFD
· Good understanding of finite volume solvers and numerical methods
