**Job Title: Shipfitter** **Job Description** The Shipfitter is responsible for laying out and fabricating metal structural parts such as plates, bulkheads, and frames, and bracing them in position within the hull of a ship for riveting or welding. This role involves working from blueprints or templates and using scribe and hand tools to accurately lay out the position of parts on metal. The Shipfitter must locate and mark reference lines such as center, buttock, and frame lines, and align parts using jacks, turnbuckles, clips, wedges, and mauls. They are also responsible for marking the location of holes to be drilled and installing temporary fasteners to hold parts in place for welding or riveting. Additional duties include installing packing, gaskets, liners, and structural accessories, preparing molds and templates for nonstandard parts, and tack welding clips and brackets prior to permanent welding. **Responsibilities** + Lay out and fabricate metal structural parts within the hull of a ship. + Work from blueprints or templates using scribes and hand tools. + Locate and mark reference lines such as center, buttock, and frame lines. + Align and position parts using jacks, turnbuckles, clips, wedges, and mauls. + Mark locations for drilling holes and install temporary fasteners. + Install packing, gaskets, liners, and structural accessories. + Prepare molds and templates for nonstandard parts. + Tack weld clips and brackets in place prior to permanent welding. + Roll, bend, flange, cut, and shape plates, beams, and other heavy metal parts. **Essential Skills** + Ability to read and interpret blueprints. + Proficient in using hand tools and equipment such as torches and plasma cutters. + Experience in ship fitting, layout, and alignment processes. + Minimum of 3 years experience in shipfitting. + For 1st class: 7 years as a marine electrician with stable job history. + For 2nd class: 3-4 years experience. **Additional Skills & Qualifications** + Experience in tack welding. + Ability to prepare molds and templates. + Familiarity with using framing and bevel squares, hammers, center punches, and other necessary tools. + DBIDS eligibility for working at Naval bases. **Why Work Here?** Join a reputable local shipyard that offers a full-time assignment for experienced shipfitters.
