Shipfitter
**Job Title: Shipfitter** **Job Description** We are currently seeking an experienced shipfitter to join our team. The shipfitter will be responsible for fabricating, assembling, and installing structural components and systems on ships and marine vessels. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of shipbuilding principles, be proficient in reading blueprints and technical drawings, and possess excellent welding and metalworking skills. **Responsibilities** + Prep, layout, fit, finish, and repair complex fabrications to work packages per product specifications and production schedule. + Cut a 13” circle out of an 18” plate, bevel the circle at 22 ½ degrees, fit the circle back into the plate flush with ¼” root opening, and strong back it to the back side for welding. + Assemble, weld, and install structural components and systems on ships and marine vessels. + Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications. + Perform grinding, flux core, MIG welding, and other metalworking tasks. + Use oxyacetylene torches for cutting and fitting. + Ensure the finished product meets the pass/fail evaluation criteria. **Essential Skills** + High school diploma or equivalent. + +5 years of proven experience as a shipfitter or similar metalworking role (iron working, structural steel, etc.), within a maritime or shipbuilding environment. + Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications. + Strong welding and metalworking skills, including experience with various welding processes (e.g., arc welding, MIG welding, TIG welding). + Familiarity with shipbuilding materials, tools, and equipment. + Knowledge of shipbuilding principles and practices. + Attention to detail and precision in workmanship. + Ability to work independently and as part of a team. + Good communication and interpersonal skills. + Ability to work in a physically demanding environment and lift heavy objects. + Must be a US citizen. **Additional Skills & Qualifications** + Vocational training or certification in metalworking, welding, or shipfitting. + Previous experience in marine construction, ship repair, or shipbuilding. + Knowledge of marine regulations and classification society standards. + Familiarity with shipyard safety practices and procedures. **Why Work Here?** Join a long-time family-owned business with stable work through government contracts. Enjoy a consistent Monday to Friday schedule with opportunities for advancement and professional growth. **Work Environment** Work in a large, loud manufacturing environment with current shifts of four 10-hour days and mandatory 8-hour overtime on Fridays until we catch up. We have openings for both 1st and 2nd shifts, with a 10% differential for working 2nd shift. The 1st shift starts at 6am, and the 2nd shift starts at 4pm. This role is within a government facility. **Pay and Benefits** The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $34.00/hr.
