Job Description
Join our dynamic team as a Sheet Metal Installer, where you'll play a crucial role in the installation and construction of various ship components, including bulkheads, ceiling panels, doors, and trim. Work closely with large sheet metal pieces, valves, and other internal components of Navy ships, ensuring compliance with Navy Standards and blueprints.Responsibilities
Install and construct bulkheads, ceiling panels, doors, windows, and other ship components.Assist in the installation of insulation on compartment floors, ceilings, or walls.Work with Tac welding and large sheet metal pieces in preparation for complete welding.Read and interpret blueprints to ensure accurate installation and assembly.Fabricate, assemble, modify, install, and repair various sheet metal products specific to ship repair work.Utilize a full array of metalworking machines and precision instruments.Essential Skills
3+ years of marine experience, preferably with marine sheet metal habitability.Experience working aboard CVN Class Navy ships is preferred.Proficiency in reading and understanding blueprint layouts, assembly, and installation.Knowledge of physical properties and working characteristics of sheet metal.Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with shipyard/ship repair environments.Knowledge of tools and equipment required in the sheet metal trade.Understanding of shop mathematics and principles.Proficiency with hand tools such as grinders, drills, and rivet guns.Ability to verify the conformance of fabricated items to blueprint specifications.Work Environment
This role involves working at various shipyard facilities in San Diego, CA, including Nassco, BAE, CMSD, North Island, and the Naval Base on 32nd street. The work environment is dynamic and requires adherence to safety standards typical of shipyard operations.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $23.00 - $27.00/hr.
