About the Role
An established electrical and communications contractor in the New York/New Jersey metro area is seeking a Purchasing Agent to support an expanding portfolio of commercial and institutional projects. The organization has a long history of delivering high\u2011quality electrical and low\u2011voltage installations and is looking for a detail\u2011oriented individual to join its operations team.
\uFEFFPosition Overview
The Purchasing Agent will work closely with project managers, field supervisors, and engineering teams to source materials, negotiate pricing, manage purchase orders, and ensure timely delivery to job sites. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast\u2011paced construction environment and is looking to grow within a stable, reputable contractor.
Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare and issue purchase orders for electrical materials, communications equipment, tools, and project\u2011specific components.Source and evaluate vendors to secure competitive pricing and reliable delivery.Support procurement needs for electrical construction, structured cabling, and solar PV projects.Collaborate with project teams to forecast material needs across commercial, healthcare, educational, and technical facilities.Track long\u2011lead items and coordinate deliveries across job sites in the NY/NJ region.Negotiate pricing, delivery terms, and volume agreements to support project budgets.Monitor order status, deliveries, returns, and inventory levels.Maintain accurate purchasing records and resolve any discrepancies.Assist with warehouse stock coordination and inventory.Compare vendor proposals and recommend cost\u2011effective alternatives.Participate in value\u2011engineering efforts with project teams.Required Skills & ExperienceMinimum of 2 years of purchasing experience in electrical contracting, construction, or related trades.Familiarity with electrical components, systems, and construction materials.Strong negotiation, communication, and organizational skills.Proficiency with Microsoft Office and purchasing or construction software.Preferred QualificationsExperience with large commercial, healthcare, institutional, or infrastructure projects.Knowledge of NY/NJ regional suppliers and electrical distribution networks.Ability to read electrical drawings, specifications, and submittals.High attention to detail and follow\u2011through.Ability to perform effectively in a deadline\u2011driven environment.Strong customer\u2011service mindset in supporting field operations.Problem\u2011solving and adaptability in dynamic project settings.Work Environment & BenefitsThis is a full\u2011time, on\u2011site role (five days per week). Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $150000.00/hr.
