Senior Systems Engineer - DBA

FactSet is seeking an experienced Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) to join our Data Platform Engineering - SQL team. In this role, you’ll manage and optimize mission-critical SQL Server databases that support FactSet’s global financial solutions. We seek a proactive, technically skilled, and collaborative professional ready to tackle complex database challenges at scale, with a strong focus on security and auditing automation.

Key Responsibilities:

Administer, maintain, and optimize multi-terabyte SQL Server environments (2016+/Azure SQL), emphasizing reliability, performance, auditing, and security.

Install, configure, and upgrade SQL Server instances across on-premises and cloud environments (Azure SQL Database, Managed Instances, SQL Server on Virtual Machines).

Lead database upgrades and migrations from older versions (2012/2016/2019) to the latest releases and Azure SQL, including cross-platform migration.

Ensure audit compliance by designing and enforcing controls for database change management and access management.

Establish a recurring validation process to measure and confirm the effectiveness of database compliance and control procedures.

Maintain documented evidence of procedural testing and validation to support internal and external compliance reviews.

Implement high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions (AlwaysOn Availability Groups, Failover Clustering, Log Shipping, Backups/Restores).

Implement SQL Server Audit specifications to monitor access, schema changes, privileged account usage, and failed logins.

Automate role/user/permission changes and auditing using T-SQL, PowerShell, and SQL Agent Jobs

Ensure database encryption (TDE, column-level), data masking, and compliance with FactSet security policies.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements and successfully deliver database and security solutions.

Participate in rotational on-call support and scheduled maintenance activities (patching, audits).

Minimum Requirements:

6+ years hands-on experience administering SQL Server databases in high-volume, mission-critical environments (PostgreSQL/Oracle experience a plus).

Willing to work hybrid 3 days per week (Brazil, Sao Paulo, Rua Capitao Antonio Rosa, 409 office)

Critical Skills:

Advanced proficiency with cloud services (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Managed Instance, SQL Server on VM).

Experience with database migrations, upgrades, and cross-platform migrations.

Strong PowerShell and T-SQL scripting for automation and tooling.

Proven ability in HA/DR and backup/restore planning and execution.

Deep understanding of SQL Server security, user/role management, auditing, and encryption.

Exceptional troubleshooting and performance tuning skills.

Excellent communication, analytical thinking, and teamwork.

Eager to learn new technologies and provide rotational on-call/weekend support.

Nice to have/Desired Skills:

Working with external auditors and implementing best practices for SOX and SOC2 compliance procedures.

Knowledge in Active Directory and RBAC.

Experience in Windows Failover Server Cluster implementation and configuration.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
