Our System Modeling team architects, develops, and maintains the Telesat Lightspeed System Model application, a state-of-the-art engineering software tool running on high performance computing (HPC) infrastructure for the modeling of resource allocation, and evaluating end-to-end system performance of the Telesat Lightspeed satellite constellation. As a Senior System Engineer, the selected candidate will participate actively in the development of the algorithms needed in the operation, simulation and performance analysis of the Lightspeed Constellation. The selected candidate will work with the Software Development and Quality Assurance teams to efficiently integrate new algorithms, support the upgrade of existing algorithms, and improve testing coverage. In addition, the Senior System Engineer will assess the performance of the Telesat Lightspeed constellation across various metrics such as throughput, capacity, availability, regulatory compliance and reliability, and study various use cases and scenarios in support of customer deployments.Main Responsibilities Develop and test algorithms following requirements in MATLAB to enhance Lightspeed system performance and reliabilityPerform detailed performance analysis of the Lightspeed constellation in terms of data throughput, latency, satellite hand-over, availability, system capacity, and regulatory complianceCollaborate with System Modeling, Software Development, Quality Assurance, and System Design teams for integration and testing of algorithmsProvide technical leadership and guidance to junior engineers in the System Modeling teamInterface with other Telesat teams regarding topics such as satellite payload and ground segment characteristics, definitions of performance metrics, performance evaluations, and regulatory complianceSupport trade-off analyses and system architecture evaluationsWrite technical documentationFollow Agile software development methodologiesEnsure code quality through unit testing, refactoring, and adherence to coding standardsEducation and Experience RequiredBachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, System Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related fieldExperience in related system design and modeling roles, with a minimum of 5 years in similar rolesStrong background in software development lifecycle Experience with MatlabExperience with agile development and CI/CD tools is desirableExperience with cluster job managers is desirableKnowledge of radio communication systems and/or satellite communication is desirableSpecialized Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesCreative problem-solver with thorough attention to detailHighly collaborative team-player who can quickly earn the confidence of co-workers and teammatesExperience in mathematical optimization including linear programming is desirableExcellent oral and written communication skillsAbility to self prioritize tasks, needs, and resourcesAn aptitude for and interest in complex technologyFluent in English, written and oral.
