Senior Substation Technician
**Job Title:** **Senior** **Substation Technician** **Job Description** As a Senior Substation Technician, you will conduct commissioning, testing, maintenance, and repair of complex protective relaying schemes, metering remote control, and data systems in generation, transmission, and distribution substation environments. You will facilitate retrofit, upgrade, and replacement projects for electrical controls, SCADA, DCS, and Power System Protection Equipment. **Responsibilities** + Perform installation, commissioning, testing, and maintenance of protective relaying equipment, relaying schemes, DFR equipment, SCADA systems, and distribution automation systems. + Test various relays including over current/voltage, directional, distance, impedance, sync check, loss of field, reverse power, and multifunction relays. + Conduct function testing of substation control circuits on relay panels, transformers, and circuit breaker change outs. + Execute differential and distance relay testing. + Assist in developing written standard procedures for commissioning, testing, and maintenance of protective relaying and associated systems. + Interpret technical documents, quotations, and service requests, applying the data directly to the tasks at hand. + Communicate technical information clearly and concisely to management and customers. + Travel to job locations for testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting while applying pertinent technical and safety standards. + Create test reports and summaries of completed work. + Assist in training service technicians in protective relay and control systems. + Be willing to travel on overnight, multi-day, out-of-town jobs. + Be willing to work regular overtime including nights, weekends, and some holidays. **Essential Skills** + Experience with electrical testing, installation, and commissioning of protective relays and control devices. + Ability to perform function testing of substation control circuits and relay testing. + Strong communication skills for conveying technical information. + Knowledge of technical standards such as IEEE, NETA, NEMA, NEC. **Additional Skills & Qualifications** + Ability to pass a pre-employment DOT drug screen and physical. + Completion of a satisfactory nationwide criminalbackground check. + Valid driver’s license and clean driving record. + Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs., climb ladders, and stand for extended periods. + Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays with minimal notice. **Work Environment** This role involves working in various substation environments, requiring travel to job locations and adherence to safety standards. The position demands flexibility with work hours, including overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays.
