We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer I to deliver world-class software solutions supporting our platform vision. This includes using leading-edge modern technology stack, fostering engineering culture of excellence supporting legacy mainframe applications, innovation using new capabilities, designing and building new ways to enhance and expose our capabilities via API’s, cultivating continual improvement in system quality, performance, and robust coding frameworks.

Translate user needs into system requirements, partner with Solution Architect and Senior Engineer to ensure design meets technology standards and uses appropriate design patterns.  Develop software applications to high coding standards, ensure code is testable throughout and meets the resilience of test automation tools.  Measure and optimize application code performance and integration of component systems. Support deployment of changes into production.  Ensure adherence to CI/CD toolsets

Organizational Context:

Member of a product engineering team within the US Consumer Services and Enterprise Digital & Data Technology, reporting to an Engineering Director.

Minimum Qualifications:

University degree in computer science, computer engineering, or other technical discipline

8+ years of mainframe application support and mainframe application development

Function as member of an agile team by contributing to application support & software builds through consistent development practices (tools, common components, and documentation)

Ability to effectively interpret technical and business objectives and challenges and articulate solutions

Hands-on expertise with application design

Willingness to learn new technologies and exploit them to their optimal potential

Experience with design and coding across one or more platforms

Participate in code reviews and automated testing

Debug software components and identify code defects for remediation

Enable the deployment, support, and monitoring of software across test, integration, and production environments

Automate deployments in test or production environments

 

 

At the core of Software Engineering, the candidate must be able to demonstrate some of the following core competencies: 

Technical experience:

Mainframe application support and application development experience.

Experience with the support of the Systemware Product Suite.  This is a critical experience requirement.

Supervises and mentors Software Engineers and cross-functional team of colleagues in specific tasks or projects, fostering their professional growth and ensuring adherence to best practices

Provides mentorship and technical leadership to junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement

Leads the entire lifecycle of software applications and systems, ensuring high-quality delivery from inception to deployment

Directs the technical aspects of projects, ensuring scalability, performance, and reliability.

Reviews configuration and code for accuracy, quality, and adherence to best practices, offering constructive feedback

Establishes and enforces coding standards, development methodologies, and best practices within the team

Identifies and resolves performance bottlenecks, ensuring optimal application performance

Facilitates collaboration with cross-functional teams to support changes and implementations, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives

Collaborates and co-creates effectively with teams in product and the business to align technology initiatives with business objectives

COBOL – preferably V6.x and/or Java 15+ experience building enterprise applications.

Experience with VSAM, BDAM, JES spool and MVS JCL is an advantage.

Experience of manual and automation testing.

CI/CD - Build pipelines for continue integration and delivery: Git, Jenkins, etc.

Work Experience:

Software engineering and development experience or a related job with 8+ years experience

Expertise with Systemware applications such as xPTR, xTND, xNET, Content Cloud is required.

Expertise in application design, software development, and automated testing

Experience in mainframe and distributed applications and databases

Experience in Agile software development methodologies and practices such as Scrum/Kanban, iterations, user stories

Experience in automation testing and documentation (i.e. automated, functional, and performance)

Willingness to learn new technologies and exploit them to their optimal potential
