The Senior Software Engineer, working in collaboration with other teams, will develop applications for the planning, business support and operation of the Telesat Lightspeed System.Main ResponsibilitiesDevelop in-depth knowledge of system operations requirements, software architecture, and design specificationsActively participate in the development and review of system requirements to obtain a thorough understanding of operations needsProvide development activities level of effort and duration estimates for planning and schedulingWork with development leads to design applications that meet system requirementsDevelop source code following established company standards and development guidelinesConduct quality assurance and support debugging promptlyProvide regular updates to management on work in progress, work completed, work planned and issues potentially impacting the on-time completion or quality level of workWrite technical documentationEducation & Experience RequiredBachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering or equivalent practical experienceAt least 10 years of relevant industry experience working in software development or software engineeringHands-on programming experience in relevant industry standard languages (e.g., Java, .NET, Python, C/C++, etc.)Experience with agile development and software lifecyclesCreative problem-solving skills and strong analytical and decision-making skillsAbility to work collaboratively in a team environmentFamiliarity with cloud native design patterns for large scale, distributed, highly-available, fault-tolerant, multi-tier applicationsFamiliarity with virtualization, multi-tenant cloud infrastructures and distributed storage systemsFamiliarity with modern micro-service frameworks and tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, Knative, Quarkus, Dapr, Kogito, Prometheus, and moreKnowledge of DevSecOps concepts and practice considered an assetKnowledge of computational optimization techniques including ML/AI methods considered an assetKnowledge of satellite RF communications technologies considered an assetStrong written and oral English communication skillsDecision Making & SupervisionDecision MakingIn this role, the incumbent will have influence on the design, development and deployment of Lightspeed System Operations software applications. They will need to make recommendations and decisions based on their experience.Supervision ExercisedThis role has no direct reports, but will work and interact with multi-disciplinary engineering, contracts, legal, and commercial teams.Working ConditionsWorking conditions are generally comfortable typical of an office environmentOccasional overtime may be requiredThe successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods program (CGP).
