Senior Research Engineer

We’re enhancing our applications with cloud-native capabilities, including data at scale, edge computing, AI-based solutions, and advanced _3D_ modeling and graphics. This innovation spans our flagship products—AutoCAD, Revit, and Construction Cloud—as well as Forma, our new Industry Cloud. As a **Senior** **Research Engineer** on the AEC Solutions team, you will join a collaborative group of technologists working to build foundation models and generative AI tools for the AEC industry. You will work closely with engineers and researchers to create and interpret design data that enhances design and engineering workflows, while growing your technical skills in data engineering and _machine learning_ systems. **Reporting:** You will report to the _Machine Learning_ Manager in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) Solutions team. _Machine Learning_ M **Location:** We support hybrid work, and this role can be based in the US or Canada. **Responsibilities** + Contribute to the development of data pipelines for diverse AEC data sources under guidance from senior team members + Work with large-scale, _multi-modal_ datasets, including text and geometric data, to support preprocessing, augmentation, analysis, and content understanding + Assist in transforming unstructured AEC data into representations suitable for _machine learning_ workflows + Collaborate with ML Research Scientists and Engineers to support alignment of data formats with downstream _model_ training and fine-tuning + Apply data cleaning, normalization, and validation techniques to help maintain data quality + Support the implementation and optimization of data pipelines for scalability and cloud deployment + Participate in requirements gathering and contribute to documenting technical solutions + Communicate findings and progress through clear documentation, basic analysis, and visualizations + Contribute to agile development workflows and adapt to changing project needs + Learn and apply engineering best practices through code reviews, mentorship, and team collaboration **Minimum Qualifications** + BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field + 3–5+ years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, _machine learning_ , or related roles + Experience working with Python and standard software engineering practices + Familiarity with data processing, data modeling, or ETL pipelines + Basic understanding of _machine learning_ concepts and how data is used for training models + Exposure to 2D or _3D_ geometric data or interest in learning computational _geometry_ techniques + Ability to translate technical concepts into working code with guidance + Willingness to learn and grow through feedback and mentorship + Clear written and verbal communication skills **Preferred Qualifications** + Exposure to AEC data formats such as CAD files, BIM models, or IFC files + Familiarity with the AEC industry or strong interest in the domain + Experience with _machine learning_ or deep learning frameworks such as _PyTorch_ + Coursework or hands-on experience with computational _geometry_ or graphics + Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS and scalable data processing tools + Experience working in collaborative, cross-functional teams **The Ideal Candidate** You are curious, motivated, and excited to learn how _machine learning_ and data engineering can be applied to real-world AEC problems. Join us! **Salary transparency** Salary is one part of Autodesk’s competitive compensation package. For U.S.-based roles, we expect a starting base salary between $119,900 and $206,800. Offers are based on the candidate’s experience and geographic location, and may exceed this range.
