Senior Project Manager- Payments
Job Description The Senior Project Manager will serve as a key resource supporting the Payments team within the Payment & Deposit Operations line of business. This role is responsible for leading and delivering complex payment related projects, ensuring alignment across business, operations, and technology teams. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in the payments ecosystem- including ACH, Zelle, Venmo, RTP, and other emerging payment rails- and has previously managed projects within banking, financial services, or payment technology environments. This Senior Project Manager will simultaneously oversee a minimum of two active projects, partnering closely with business stakeholders, operations teams, IT delivery groups (delivery leads, PMs, scrum masters), and external vendors. Projects may cover areas such as real time payments, clearing, settlement, and modernization of payment platforms. The candidate will also navigate SDLC processes, drive project milestones, resolve risks and issues proactively, and ensure stakeholder alignment across technical and operational teams. Key Responsibilities • Lead and manage end to end delivery of payment focused projects, typically 2+ at a time. • Partner with Payment & Deposit Operations stakeholders to define scope, requirements, timelines, and success criteria. • Coordinate closely with IT delivery partners (delivery managers, scrum masters, IT PMs) to advance work through the SDLC. • Oversee projects related to ACH, Zelle, Venmo, RTP, clearing, settlement, and other payment rails. • Manage cross functional communication among business, IT, vendors, and operational groups. • Identify, communicate, and mitigate project risks, issues, and dependencies. • Provide project reporting, dashboards, and status updates to leadership. • Support process improvements across payments workflows and operational readiness. Skills and Requirements • 10+ years of experience in project management, with strong ownership of complex initiatives. • Background in payments environments, such as banking, financial services, or payment technology providers. • Strong understanding of payment ecosystems including ACH, Venmo, Zelle, RTP, clearing, settlement, or related rails. • Demonstrated success managing multiple concurrent projects. • Experience partnering with both business and IT teams across SDLC environments. • Exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and organizational skills. • Experience working with or within a bank or banking operations group highly preferred. • Prior experience supporting real time payments implementations. • Exposure to deposit operations, vendor integrations, or modernization initiatives. • Professional certifications (PMP, CSM, etc.) helpful but not required.
