JOB SUMMARY: Designs single-sided, double-sided, and multi-layer printed circuit boards and membrane layouts. Works with Engineering schematic design team to create new design layouts. Writes computer programs and utilities to facilitate the design process. Build component libraries. Create FAB drawings. Design penalization and perform DFM for customer designs. Interface with PCB manufactures. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.) + Reviews and analyzes engineering design schematics and supporting documents to plan layout of PCB components and printed circuitry. + Interfaces with customer design teams. + Provides customers with design options based on IPC standards and possible PCB manufacturability issues. + Perform DFM analysis. + Perform analysis and design using multiple native design platforms. + Trains PCB Design staff. + Confers with engineering staff to resolve design details and issues. + Designs single-sided, double-sided, and multi-layer printed circuit boards and membrane layouts. Creates panel drawings and Gerber files. + Develops accurate documentation and information for the fabrication of printed circuit boards. + Interfaces with vendors to provide manufacturing support during fabrication. Authorizes and/or verifies changes. + Writes computer programs and utilities for the creation of Library shapes and parts, schematic symbols and PCB parts as needed to facilitate the design process. + Creates matrices for multiple switch functions and silk-screening capabilities. + Creates assembly placement files for manufacturing. + Authorized to write Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) to revise printed circuit board drawings and Gerber files. + Ability to read and interpret documents such as RFEC's ECN's, PCO's, electrical schematics, work orders, customer specifications, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. + Ability to write routing reports and correspondence and speak effectively before groups of customers or employees. OTHER FUNCTIONS + Attends meetings as needed to support organization activity. + Interfaces with customers as required. + Performs other duties, as assigned, to achieve corporate and departmental objectives. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: + Associate's degree in electro-mechanical design or related field. + Five years experience in printed circuit board and membrane design. + Working knowledge of thru hole and surface mount technology. + Basic knowledge of IPC standards. + Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. + Ability to use CAD system and peripheral equipment (CAD Star, or Altium, Mentor Graphics, PADs or equivalent, CAM350 and Autocad), computers, and other computer-associated equipment. Understanding of fabrication, assembly processes, ESD/EMI requirements, and mechanical design concepts. + Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry, and statistical analysis. + Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. + Demonstrated organizational skills, with the ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously in a timely manner in a fast-paced environment. + Sound written and oral communication skills; must be able to write and understand routine reports, follow oral and written instructions, and speak effectively. + Strong interpersonal skills; ability to relate to and work with diverse groups of people. + Must have knowledge of use and operation of standard office equipment and be familiar with commonly used email, Internet, word processing, databases and spreadsheets. + Must have a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and materials. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS : + Degree in Electronics, Electrical ENG. or related technical degree preferred. + Ten years experience in printed circuit board and membrane design. + Advanced knowledge of thru hole and surface mount technology. + Advanced knowledge of IPC standards. + Experience in Contract Manufacturing and EMS industry desired with an emphasis in supporting an offshore manufacturing facility. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, talk, hear, and see. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or reach with hands and arms. The environment is fast-paced; time pressured, and requires accuracy. The employee will regularly multi-task between projects, be required to move throughout the office building, and effectively communicate. The normal environment is quiet and typical of an open cubical setting with some areas that may be louder at times.
