The Position

Principle Roles & Responsibilities / Accountabilities

Provide legal guidance and support with a primary focus on patent law and a secondary focus on other areas of intellectual property law, such as copyrights, trade secrets and trademarks, etc.

Manage and support various aspects of IP matters for R&D projects, external collaborations, and products by working closely with the R&D, partnering, business, and local/global IP teams

Contribute to re-examination and invalidation proceedings, as well as patent infringement matters

Share China IP knowledge and expertise with key stakeholders

Develop, optimize, and maintain IP processes

Contribute to the development and implementation of Roche China's IP strategy

Provide IP training to various stakeholders to enhance understanding and compliance

Oversee law firm management and supervise the service quality of external counsel

Handle service invention matters

Other IP matters

Qualification and Experience

Education/Qualifications

Master's degree in organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, biological sciences, or pharmaceutical sciences; Ph.D. is preferred.

Patent bar qualification required; legal bar qualification preferred

Job Required Competencies

Minimum of 8 years of experience in practicing patent law in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry

Research and IP experience in small molecule discovery projects

Deep understanding of Chinese patent law and practice

Good knowledge of foreign patent laws (in particular, EU, US, JP)

Deep understanding of specific IP protection measures in pharmaceutical industry

Familiar with pharma R&D and pharmaceutical industry, including drug regulatory laws and regulations
