What you'll be doing

The role is a professional responsible for the integrity of financial and management accounting process used for reporting and business analysis, managing professionals and managers to ensure that accurate accounting and reporting procedures are in place. The role applies professional knowledge to ensure the financial statement close and settlement process is conducted in a timely manner and aligned to financial accounting policies and procedures. The role manages professionals, managers and operational support employees, developing and maintaining productive and collaborative working relationships with internal and external business partners and stakeholders. This role provides financial accounting advisory services to business partners on a regular basis and month end attestations of all balances according to standard policy. The role often incorporates innovation into daily execution and management practices.

How you'll succeed

Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of product controllers, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.Financial Oversight: Oversee daily, monthly, and quarterly balance sheet and P&L reporting for Capital Markets and Treasury derivatives and securities, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulatory standards.  Perform reconcilement of general ledger accounts, resolve reconciling issues and ensure reporting is in line with US GAAP and IFRS.Risk Management: Identify and mitigate operational and financial risks associated with product control activities.Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with Front Office, Risk and Finance teams to resolve issues and support business initiatives.Process Improvement: Drive automation, standardization, and enhancement of product control processes.Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to internal policies and external regulatory requirements.Strategic Insights: Provide analysis and commentary on financial results and market trends to senior management.Audit & Controls: Support internal and external audit processes, maintaining robust controls and documentation.

Who you are

You have a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field; CPA or MBA preferred.

You possess 8+ years of relevant experience in product control, financial reporting, or related roles within banking or capital markets.

You are a proven leadership experience managing teams in a fast-paced environment.

You have strong technical skills in financial products (derivatives, fixed income, etc.), valuation, and risk management.

You show advanced proficiency in Excel; experience with financial systems (e.g., SAP, Xtrader, WSS, TPG, Cognos, FIS) is an asset.

You portray excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

You possess deep understanding of regulatory frameworks (IFRS,US GAAP, etc.).

You are a strategic thinker with a background in leadership & people development.

You have solid financial acumen, risk awareness, and change management experience.

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of $125,000 - $150,000K for the Chicago, IL market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which may also include a discretionary bonus component.
