The Senior Manager, Network Engineering (LAN) is responsible for leading large-scale enterprise network modernization initiatives across retail locations and distribution centers. This role provides strategic and operational leadership for LAN, wireless, and network access control environments while managing a growing team of network leaders and engineers. The Senior Manager partners closely with infrastructure, security, and business stakeholders to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable network solutions that support long-term IT and business objectives.
Responsibilities and Duties
Lead large, complex network modernization programs, including enterprise LAN refresh initiatives across approximately 1,400 retail stores and multiple distribution centers.Direct delivery of major hardware refresh programs, including switching, wireless access points, SD-LAN, and full data center network upgrades.Own network modernization strategy utilizing Fortinet technologies, including LAN, wireless networking, network access control (NAC), and device authentication.Manage multiple concurrent projects and initiatives, ensuring consistent, on-time delivery while maintaining operational stability.Lead and develop a growing organization of network professionals, including managing 2–3 network managers and an overall team of 10–20+ engineers.Drive talent management, succession planning, coaching, and professional development using the organization’s formal development framework.Communicate and execute the network engineering strategy in alignment with enterprise mission, vision, and values, motivating teams to deliver exceptional outcomes.Partner with architects, security teams, and business stakeholders to design and implement “as-is” and “to-be” network architectures.Document current-state and future-state network processes, identifying required changes to support modernization and growth.Lead network security initiatives, including access control, authentication, and detection and remediation of network-related security incidents.Serve as a senior escalation point for complex network issues across LAN, wireless, and data center environments.Develop and manage budget plans for network initiatives, including capital expenditures and operational costs.Build business cases to justify network investments, quantify current costs, and demonstrate ROI.Monitor compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory standards, addressing non-compliance issues as needed.Drive continuous improvement by reviewing existing network operations and implementing innovative processes and technologies.Stay informed of emerging networking technologies and assess their applicability and value to the organization.Skills
Required
Proven experience leading large-scale LAN and wireless network modernization initiatives in enterprise environments.Strong expertise in Fortinet networking solutions, including LAN, wireless, network access control (NAC), and device authentication.Demonstrated success delivering major hardware refresh programs across retail stores and data centers.Experience managing managers and leading leaders, with accountability for multi-layered teams.Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and oversee multiple complex initiatives simultaneously.Strong project delivery and portfolio management capabilities.Designs, executes, and reports on system and service testing to ensure network solutions meet business and technical requirements.Monitors, diagnoses, and resolves complex network and infrastructure issues.Demonstrates a strong change mindset and effectively leads teams through periods of transformation.Understands business context, organizational structure, and operational needs to align network solutions with enterprise goals.Documents current-state and future-state processes, identifying gaps and required changes.Proficient in cloud-based infrastructure concepts, including virtual networks and hybrid connectivity.Maintains network security, integrity, compliance, and continuity across enterprise environments.Leads incident detection, analysis, and remediation related to network security events.Produces clear, effective reports and presentations for technical and executive audiences.Conducts gap analysis and supports build-vs-buy decisions for network capabilities.Experience
