Senior Estimator

Aplin has partnered with a reputable company to recruit a Senior Estimator -– Linear Infrastructure- Underground Earthworks / Utility construction for their growing operations in Alberta. This full time position will report to the Chief Estimator.
The Estimator will produce cost estimates for assigned tenders, and evaluate bid specifications and drawings, ensuring that information is correct and current, all of which are required to successfully bid and win tenders.
The successful candidate will also be responsible for following up with sub-contractors to ensure that bids are received
Key Responsibilities:Estimate civil earthworks and underground projectsEvaluate multiple sub-trade executions, strategies, and estimatesBe accountable for sub-trade strategies and estimatesAccountable for the entire proposal package submissionAccountability for the overall construction plan, including schedule, concept, budget, procurement, and risk assessmentPrepares and maintains the status of plansPrepares subcontractor bid packagesTransmits addenda and other bid information to subcontractorsProduce bid package for Project Manager and Superintendent including labor and equipment budgets, material suppliers, subcontractors, tender specifications, and contractsAccountability for updating the database and costing system with project data to ensure cost is currentPrepare detailed and accurate cost estimatesConduct tender review meeting to review scope, productions, construction approach, competitive landscape, schedule, and set markupSubmit Tenders formsUtilize construction estimating software such as B2W to create comprehensive estimatesCollaborate with project managers, architects, and subcontractors to gather necessary information for estimating purposesResearch and obtain pricing for materials, equipment, and subcontractor servicesEvaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitiveness and accuracyNegotiate pricing with vendors and subcontractors to achieve the best value for the projectMaintain organized records of estimates, bids, and related documentationProvide support to project management team throughout the construction process Qualifications & Experience:Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office with the ability to develop templates, track changes, create spreadsheets, and use formulas10+ years related to underground utility infrastructure experience. Other combinations of experience and education may be consideredP.Eng or CET is preferredExperience reading and understanding blueprints, specifications, schedules, and costing reports is requiredA thorough understanding of the construction process, environmental regulations, and safety practices is requiredExcellent verbal and written communication skillsPrevious experience using B2W software is an assetPrevious leadership or manager experience is an assetProven experience in construction estimating, preferably in commercial or industrial projectsStrong knowledge of construction materials, methods, and techniquesDetail-oriented with the ability to multitask and prioritize workload effectively Competencies:A thorough understanding of the construction process, environmental regulations, and safety practicesExcellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to read and interpret construction plans and specificationsExcellent mathematical skills for accurate quantity takeoffs and cost calculationsStrong negotiation skills to secure competitive pricing from vendors and subcontractorsFamiliarity with project management principles Environmental: Office SettingTravel Expectations: Occasional on-site visitsPhysical Requirements: Employees are expected to lift and handle materials and tools of various shapes and sizes.
