STV is seeking a Senior Environmental Planner to support our Transportation & Infrastructure Division in Franklin, Tennessee. This role is ideal for an experienced environmental planning professional with deep expertise in NEPA and transportation planning who can lead technical work, support project and task management, and contribute to high-profile transit and transportation initiatives across Tennessee and the Southeast.
The Senior Environmental Planner will serve as a technical resource, mentor, and client-facing contributor—helping guide complex environmental documentation from planning through approval.
Key Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership and guidance related to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and related federal and state environmental regulationsLead the preparation, review, authorship, and editing of NEPA documentation and Tennessee Environmental Evaluation Reports (TEERs)Support public involvement and outreach efforts, including public meetings, agency coordination, and stakeholder engagementManage and support feasibility studies, alternatives analyses, FHWA Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL) studies, and other transportation planning documentsSupport project and task management activities, including scope, schedule, and coordination with multidisciplinary teamsProvide oversight and quality control for environmental documents to ensure compliance with agency requirements and accepted professional standardsSupport project quality initiatives, including quality management plan development and quality assurance reviewsAssist project managers in ensuring environmental deliverables meet contractual, regulatory, and client expectationsCollaborate with office and practice leadership to support client development, proposal efforts, and industry participationQualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Planning, Environmental Science, Urban/Regional Planning, Geography, or a related disciplineMinimum 7+ years of environmental planning experience, with a strong focus on transportation projectsDemonstrated expertise in NEPA documentation and environmental review processesExperience preparing and reviewing TEERs, CEs, EA/EIS documentation, and planning-level environmental studiesFamiliarity with FHWA, TDOT, and other state or federal transportation agenciesStrong technical writing, editing, and document management skills, as well as being proficient in Word and Adobe or similar programsProven ability to lead tasksAbility to mentor staff and collaborate across disciplines a plusExcellent verbal communication skills and experience supporting public outreach
