Senior Engineer, Systems Engineering
Overview

Job Purpose

The Systems Engineer is responsible for creating and maintaining availability and high-performance in mixed Linux and Windows development, non-production, and production environments. This individual works as part of a results-oriented, service-delivery team and assists configuration analysts, release engineers, developers, and operations teams. Additionally, the Systems Engineer performs root cause analysis of problems, selects, and implements automation tools, and actively participates in deeply technical discourse. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of system tuning and fault-tolerant design principles as used in high-performance, low-latency computing workloads.

 

Responsibilities

Assist in the design, planning and implementation of server solutions, ensuring maximum performance and reliabilityAutomate manual tasks using scripting and application developmentInvestigate and adopt new technologies/tools as needs ariseRespond to and assist in production operations in a 24/7 environmentWork efficiently in a fast-paced environment and handle priorities effectivelyEnsure meticulous attention to detail and maintain excellent organizational skillsEvaluate, test, and integrate new operating system versions, drivers, and patchesProvide technical analysis, resolve problems, and propose solutionsCoordinate and execute internal infrastructure initiatives including patching, refreshes, upgrades, and decommissionsProvide support to, and coordinate with, developers, operations staff, release engineers, and end-usersCollaborate effectively with team members to achieve project goals and maintain system integrityParticipate in a weekly on-call rotation for after-hours support

Knowledge and Experience

5+ years of experience with Linux operating systems (RedHat variants preferred)Intermediate Linux administration and engineeringProficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, Perl etc.Experience with automation/configuration management using either Puppet, Ansible, Chef, or equivalentFamiliarity with git, foreman, Jenkins, or equivalentDemonstrable knowledge of multi-tiered, highly available, and resilient application designKnowledge of horizontal and vertical scaling for performance and high availabilityTop-tier analytics and problem solvingAbility to work in a service-oriented team environmentProject Management, organization, and time managementCustomer-focused, and dedicated to the best possible user experienceCommunicate effectively with both technical and business resources

Preferred

Degree in engineering discipline or equivalent experience in Systems EngineeringExperience building and supporting bare-metal enterprise servers such as HPE, DELL, IBM, etc.Experience with server virtualization technologies (VMWare, Proxmox, etc)Familiarity and experience with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Tanzu, etc)Strong understanding of networking protocols and configuration (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, InfiniBand, etc.)Hands-on experience building and maintaining low-latency computing ecosystems

New York Base Salary Range 

The expected base salary for this role, if located in New York, is between $135,000 - 159,700 USD.  The base salary range does not include Intercontinental Exchange’s incentive compensation.  While we provide this range as general guidance, at ICE we compensate employees based on the skillset and experience of the individual. Regular full-time ICE employees are eligible for a suite of competitive employee benefits, including healthcare coverage (medical, dental and vision), a 401(k) plan, life insurance, time off, and paid leave for qualifying circumstances.
