Senior EHS Specialist

A Day in the LifeA day in the life of a site EHS leader involves driving safety strategy, engaging with employees and senior leaders, and ensuring compliance with regulations. From overseeing hazard assessments, managing audits, and supporting safe work practices to delivering training and coordinating emergency drills, each task contributes to a safer, healthier, and more sustainable workplace. The role also includes fostering a proactive safety culture, integrating EHS into business decisions, and leading environmental initiatives, making every day both dynamic and impactful.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

Lead site-level EHS strategy aligned with Medtronic Global EHS Standards.Foster a proactive safety culture through leadership engagement, employee involvement, and continuous improvement.Serve as the site EHS Subject Matter Expert for R&D laboratories, pilot builds, testing, and office environments.Partner with senior leadership to integrate EHS into business decisions.Ensure compliance with all applicable Indian EHS regulations.Maintain permits, licenses, statutory registers, and regulatory reporting.Lead and support internal, external, and regulatory audits.Lead Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments (HIRA)Ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals and solvents, compressed gas and biomedical and hazardous wastePartner with Engineering and Quality teams to ensure EHS risks are addressed during design changes and technology transfers.Lead incident reporting, investigation, and root cause analysis (RCA).Track and analyze leading and lagging EHS indicators.Drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) and verify effectiveness.Promote near-miss reporting and organizational learning.Develop and deliver EHS training programs.Ensure EHS induction for new hires, visitors, and contractors.Maintain training records and competency matrices.Develop, implement, and test Emergency Response Plans (ERP).Conduct mock drills for fire, chemical spill, medical emergencies, and evacuation scenarios.Coordinate with site facilities.Ensure emergency equipment readiness and compliance.Conduct contractor risk assessments, inductions, audits, and on-site monitoring.Ensure safe work practices through permit-to-work systems.Manage environmental programsSupport Medtronic’s sustainability and ESG goals.Drive site-level green initiatives and continuous environmental improvement.Lead EHS improvement projects using data analytics and risk-based approaches.Share best practices and lessons learned across Medtronic sites.Support global EHS initiatives and cross-site collaboration.

Required Knowledge and Experience:

Must have overall 8-12 years of experience.Must have full time Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Science, or Environmental Health & Safety from a recognized University.Master’s degree or Diploma in Industrial Safety / EHS preferred.Knowledge of occupational EHS regulations and best practices.Good command on advanced Excel.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Good administrative skills.Customer focused.Can work autonomously but is also a team player.Ability to use discretion and deal effectively with uncertainty, change and ambiguity.Good presentation Skills and organizational skills; with ability to multitasking.Self-motivated and positive with  “can do” attitude.
Nice to Have:Computer literacy including sound knowledge of the MS Office suite of software.Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office especially Excel.
