Senior Director, Faith in Action Volunteer Relations Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago partners with mission-driven people and organizations across Cook and Lake counties to witness a message of mercy and hope to a world in need by improving lives and nourishing spirits; strengthening and empowering people, families, and communities; and committing to being present to our times through the eyes of faith. Position Summary Provide strategic leadership to inspire, equip, and grow Catholic Charities' volunteer community that currently includes 2,100 people, but over time will double and triple! Courageously and contagiously champion volunteerism as a transformative expression of "faith in action," partnering with our volunteer operations team to ensure all volunteer interactions foster spiritual and cultural growth, positive engagement with faith, substantive client impact, and solidarity with those we serve. Strengthen pathways for volunteers to live their faith through service, deepen community connections, and advance CCAC's mission of service. Build and sustain meaningful relationships among volunteers, staff, and the people we serve to create a vibrant, mission-aligned culture of respect for and service to those in need. Role-Specific Responsibilities * Core operational responsibilities Implement CCAC's Faith in Action recruitment and engagement plan for volunteers. Recruit, onboard, and connect volunteers to service opportunities that advance our mission to serve those in need. Use data systems and processes related to recruiting and tracking volunteer engagement, onboarding, training and compliance, and reporting. Maintain an updated, engaging, mission-driven volunteer section of the CCAC website in collaboration with the Communications team. Prepare monthly dashboards summarizing volunteer engagement trends, data insights, and recommendations for continuous improvement. * Role growth, performance, and outreach goals Develop and execute strategies that grow CCAC's volunteer base, deepen member engagement, and enhance program impact. Monitor metrics to evaluate volunteer activities, measuring their contribution to community engagement and mission impact. Promote a culture of faith-filled joy and hope that celebrates service, deepens volunteers' engagement with the people we serve and with each other, and builds strong word-of-mouth witness for Charities. Identify and implement innovations that increase access, participation, engagement, compassion, and purpose among volunteers. * External relationship responsibilities Joyously represent Catholic Charities at community, parish, and faith-based gatherings to recruit new volunteers, retain longtime volunteers, strengthen partnerships, and deepen a shared commitment to growing faith through service. Build relationships with civic, corporate, and community organizations that deepen compassion for those in need, broaden volunteer engagement, and increase awareness of CCAC's mission and impact. Capture and share compelling stories of volunteer impact to inspire ongoing participation and philanthropic support. * Internal, cross-functional collaboration responsibilities Collaborate closely with Community Programs, Faith and Mission, and Institutional Advancement to integrate volunteers effectively into programs and events. Partner with colleagues overseeing volunteer-staffed programming to ensure alignment, consistency, and excellence in volunteer engagement practices. Serve as a mission ambassador by promoting a joy- and hope-filled culture of service, justice, and radical hospitality in all internal and external interactions. * Team leadership responsibilities Model partnership, accountability, and shared purpose across teams. Promote a culture of courage, compassion, appreciation, and collective stewardship that reinforces faith in action as an essential part of CCAC's mission and purpose. * People development responsibilities Cultivate an enriching volunteer experience through thoughtful onboarding and community-building initiatives that deepen witness and recognize our volunteers' key role in our mission. Partner with Community Programs and Faith and Mission teams to ensure that volunteer onboarding and experiences offer the knowledge and tools needed for a successful, fulfilling volunteer experience that strengthens faith witness, engagement, retention, and attention to client needs and impact. Qualifications Minimum Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in Nonprofit Leadership, Public Administration, or a related field preferred. Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive leadership experience in volunteer engagement, community outreach, or nonprofit program management. Preferred Education & Experience Master's degree in Nonprofit Leadership, Public Administration, or a related field preferred. 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in volunteer engagement, community outreach, or nonprofit program management. Experience in a large, multi-program social service organization. Familiarity with Catholic Charities or other faith-based organizational structures and values. Minimum Qualifications & Skills Deep commitment to Catholic Charities' purpose and values; passion for servant leadership. Exceptional relationship-building and communication skills with the ability to motivate and inspire volunteers and colleagues. Strong systems thinker capable of translating relationships into sustainable processes and goals. Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a matrixed team structure across multiple departments. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data management tools. Preferred Qualifications & Skills Experience working in or with faith-based organizations and diverse communities. Familiarity with Catholic Social Teaching and the Catholic faith.
