Job DescriptionWe’re seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to join our Scientific Modeling, Application, Visualization, Computational Science, Software, and Statistical Support (SMAVCS4) Team to support the Environmental Protection Agency. Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention (OCSPP), a scientific organization working to support Agency decisions by providing solutions-driven research to rapidly evaluate the potential human health and environmental risks due to exposures to environmental chemicals and ensure the integrity of the freshwater environment and its capacity to support human well-being.
The Senior DevOps Engineer will support application servers (RHEL) with updates, user permissions, web application configuration management, and log management. They will also participate in Agile ritual meetings and thrive in an autonomous environment surrounded by unsolved problems. This position supports CI/CD for applications that are developed in-house that are both public and intranet-facing. It will also assist in support of the follow COTS applications: Jenkins, Portainer, Slack, Atlassian Bitbucket, Prometheus, Alert Manager, Grafana, Docker, Apache, HAProxy, Ansible, Docker Registry, SonaType Nexus, Elastic Search, Logstash, Kibana, and Beats.

Responsibilities:
Assisting development teams in deploymentsTroubleshooting delivery failures and application outagesModification of current CI pipelines (adding or changing environmental variables, testing steps, or build steps, etc)Documentation of current processes and updating documentation with process changesAutomating processes to reduce time to deployment or increase efficiencyAnalysis of problem areas via logs and monitoring metrics to improve server and application performanceRequirements:
Education: BA/BS or equivalent in related fieldExperience: 5+ years of related experience required; 6+ years of related experience preferredThe ideal candidate will 5+ years of experience as a web developer, with 3+ years experience in an Agile development framework such as Scrum or Kanban and 3+ years experience with source code version control management, code merging, and Git FlowThe ideal candidate may also have 5+ years of experience as a Linux administrator, with 3+ years experience with Linux administration skills using technologies for web applications such as Apache, Nginx, and/or HAProxy.DevOps CICD Tool Experience: Jenkins / Bamboo / Github actions for complete automation implementation (experience at some level) with some playbooks (Ansible ) or other. Ability to implement through Source Code (IaC – Infrastructure as Code) to automate the initial CICD pipelines, ideally as replicated servicesDocker containers with some orchestration: Docker Swarm and/or Kubernetes. Also, Overall DevOps orchestration tool like PortainerDevOps Monitoring software: ELK or Prometheus – utilization of these tools to troubleshoot container deployment errorsKnowledge of Git source code and how to useNice to Have:Experience with Linux configuration management tools using Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or similar technologiesExperience with cloud technologies AWS or AzureExperience with Bash Scripting, Java, Python, Groovy, and/or RubyExperience with centralized application logging management tools such as Elastic stack, Graylog, Fluentd or similar technologiesExperience with automated testing integrationExperience with Atlassian tools such as Bitbucket, Jira, ConfluenceExperience with open source tools. In most cases there is not a support mechanism in place accept for reading the documentationExperience with CI/CD platform such as Jenkins or GitLab or GitHub CICDExperience with containerized technologies such as DockerExperience with Source code processing (Git) with basic operations such as comparing deltas in code | checkin check out | proper Merging and Pull Requests. Especially needed for IaC (Infrastructure as Code) in DevOPsRelated certification(s) sure as RCSA, Docker Certified Associate, or similar
