We are seeking an experienced Senior/Principal Database Engineer to join our Scientific Modeling, Application, Visualization, Computational Science, Software, and Statistical Support (SMAVCS4) Team to support the Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention (OCSPP), a scientific organization working to support Agency decisions by providing solutions-driven research to rapidly evaluate the potential human health and environmental risks due to exposures to environmental chemicals and ensure the integrity of the freshwater environment and its capacity to support human well-being.
The selected candidate will interface with the EPA Product Team and developers and will be responsible for, but not limited to, installation, capacity planning, configuration, database design, migration, performance monitoring, security, administration & management of user accounts, troubleshooting, disaster recovery as well as backup and data recovery to ensure the availability and consistent performance of OCSPP’s software and applications.
The selected candidate for this role must have a high degree of attention to detail as well as a collaborative and solution-oriented working style.
Description of Function:
Install, configure, administer, manage, and document MySQL, PostgreSQL, NoSQL (MongoDB) in a Master with Replicas configuration across several nodes already procured by CCTE for high availability and high-performance scenariosIndependently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing end-to-end problem resolutionAdvise Division management officials regarding integration of IT programs with other programs of equivalent scope and complexity. Lead engineering and architecture activities related to database performance monitoring & optimizationDevelop new theories, concepts principles and work methods to significantly improve relational and non-relational data stores for designing, configuring, implementing, and documenting relational and non-relational data stores consisting of main-replica systems. Manage database assets including maintenance of inventory and related documentationRoles & Responsibilities:
Provide expert level DBA services for production, stage, and development databases across all platforms. Works closely with senior developers and data modelers to perform physical database design for critical business applications/databases with the largest numbers of interfaces and users and complex query tuning and schemaUse expert communication and collaboration skills to advise leadership regarding integration of IT programs with other programs of equivalent scope and complexity; lead engineering and architecture activities; provide domain and technical expertise, provide technical mentorship and cross-training to peers and team membersWork involves analyzing the user experience of a variety of Agency IT programs and recommending design changes that can enhance the user experienceAdvanced knowledge of database security, backup and recovery, and performance monitoring standardsEducation:
Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics or equivalent years of experienceExperience:
