Senior Database Administrator

We are seeking a Senior Database Administration Engineer with deep hands‑on expertise across modern relational and non‑relational database platforms. This role is ideal for someone experienced in operating, optimizing, securing, and automating large‑scale DBMS environments using technologies such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Cassandra, Linux‑based systems, and AWS native database services. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in database lifecycle management, performance troubleshooting, automation, observability engineering, and enterprise‑level security and compliance controls.

About You – experience, education, skills, and accomplishments

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, and/or equivalent experience.

5 years DBMS experience, 3 years DBMS lifecycle work, 2 years advanced troubleshooting, 3 years monitoring/alerting/observability, 3 years scripting and automation, 3 years database security/auditing/compliance, 2 years Linux administration

It would be great if you also have . . .

Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code and automation tools such as Chef, Rundeck, Chef, Ansible and configuration languages such as YAML, and JSON.

Familiarity with software build and infrastructure automation tools such Jenkins and Terraform.

Deep knowledge of business continuity and high availability design and operations including backups, restores, disaster recovery, and data corruption management.

Experience documenting operational activities using automated and validated technical runbooks and contributing to peer reviews.

Interest in mentoring junior engineers on database best practices and troubleshooting techniques

What will you be doing in this role?

Execute and improve DBMS lifecycle tasks such as installations, upgrades, patching, and configuration updates.

Troubleshoot complex performance and availability issues at the database, instance, and SQL levels.

Develop and enhance automation for routine database operations and monitoring workflows.

Analyze and respond to infrastructure and performance alerts, providing timely and accurate resolutions.

Participate in technical reviews, knowledge‑sharing sessions, and discussions that help improve team processes and runbooks.

Support change‑management processes by validating, testing, and executing DBMS operational changes safely and consistently.

Participate in a 24x7 on‑call rotation for production support.

You will support A&G Content Solutions products including ProQuest, eBook Central, and other platforms in our portfolio.

Our team manages a broad and critical fleet of datastores across multiple DBMS technologies. We operate following DevOps principles—automation, observability, continuous improvement, and operational reliability. Hours of Work

This is a permanent full-time position, with core engagement hours within the CET time zone. This is a hybrid position; you will be expected to work from our Belgrade office 3 days every other week.
