What is the opportunity?
This is an opportunity to work at RBC Insurance Active Data Platform team with a group of technology specialists dedicated to deliver solution to Insurance business and clients. We are all in with Agile development, DevOps, Open Source, Software as a Service (SaaS) and modern tools and processes. You will have an opportunity to make a real difference by working on some impactful and meaningful projects.
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer to design, implement, and optimize our Cloud Data Lakehouse platform using Snowflake, leveraging the RBC Lumina Snowflake offering. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in hands-on technical execution, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, secure, and high-quality data solutions.
Our applications are used by RBC staff and clients making your contributions highly impactful and visible, directly contributing to the success of RBC. We deliver digitally enabled applications that are both internal and internet facing. We build cloud data lakehouse, stable web, and back-end applications which are resilient, scalable and high performance that avoids failure and focused on delivering best client experience. We continuously update our tech skills and upgrade our platforms to match industry standards.
What will you do?
Hands-On Snowflake Development: Design, develop, and maintain large-scale data warehouses, data pipelines, and transformation workflows using Snowflake’s native features (e.g., Snowpipe, Tasks, Stored Procedures).Data Management & Modeling: Implement robust data management frameworks, including data governance, metadata management, and data lineage. Lead data modeling efforts (dimensional/star schemas, NoSQL-to-Snowflake mappings) to support analytical and operational use cases.Data Transformation & Optimization: Write efficient SQL, Python, or Snowflake Scripting (Snowflake SQL, JavaScript UDFs) to transform raw data into curated datasets. Optimize query performance, storage, and cost management in Snowflake.Collaboration & Leadership: Partner with architects, data scientists, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions. Mentor junior engineers and contribute to best practices for Snowflake development.Integration & Quality: Ensure seamless integration with upstream/downstream systems (e.g., APIs, ETL tools, BI platforms). Implement data validation, testing, and monitoring to guarantee data accuracy and security.Innovation: Participate in SRE setup to support end-to-end application in production. Ready to provide after hour support as required.What do you need to succeed?
Must Have
Hands-on Snowflake Experience (2+ years): Proven expertise in coding, performance tuning, and managing Snowflake environments (certification preferred).Data Engineering Fundamentals: Strong knowledge of data management frameworks, ETL/ELT paradigms, and dimensional modeling.Technical Skills: Proficiency in SQL, Python, and cloud data ecosystems (AWS/Azure). Experience with Airflow, dbt, or Spark is a plus.Problem-Solving: Ability to debug complex data workflows, optimize costs, and ensure scalability.Communication: Clear articulation of technical trade-offs to both technical and non-technical audiences.Team player: proactively identify issues under the project assigned to, support other team members and know when to escalate and seek further guidance to prioritize work.Open minded: ability to work under pressure and ambiguities.Nice to Have
Certifications: Snowflake certifications (e.g. Snowflake Certified Data Engineer)Knowledge of data engineering tools, familiar with cloud-based data platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP)Experience with machine learning, artificial intelligence, or other emerging technologies. Adaptability, Critical thinking and growing mindsetManagement and collaboration skills, Verbal and written communication skillsTeam contributor and care about team members.
