American Express is looking for energetic, high-performing software engineers to help shape our technology and product roadmap. You will be part of the fast-paced, entrepreneurial team that enables batch/ real-time analytical solutions using ground-breaking technologies to deliver innovative solutions across multiple lines of business's. Position requires a Bachelors or higher degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or related field. Good experience in data programming and applications systems design and architecture is required.

The position of Senior Data Engineer will be a part of a dynamic and growing team within the GRCT organization at American Express.

Mentors junior Data Engineers and multi-functional team of colleagues, fostering a culture of excellence and innovationLeads and collaborates within Agile teams, support business and product changes, and prioritize features for ongoing sprintsStays abreast of new database management system features and functions and drive adoption across Amex to use product capabilitiesProvides guidance and support to junior engineers, fostering professional growth and development within the teamConverts logical data architectures into physical designs and spends significant time on database development and testingProvides administration services for databases, data warehouses, and datamarts, and continuously improves database design and performanceIdentifies and fixes database performance issues, ensuring optimal replication, high availability, and effective backup and recovery processesDevelops and implements standard practices for data management, security, and processes, and contribute to tool and method decisionsEnhances Big Data management strategies by designing and implementing advanced partitioning and indexing solutionsCollaborates and co-creates effectively with teams in product and the business to align technology initiatives with business objectives10+ years in data engineering, with a solid focus on GCP.Proficiency in GCP services such as BigQuery, Dataflow, Cloud Storage, Cloud Composer (Airflow), and Pub/Sub.Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts and ETL/ELT processes.Data modeling experience, including dimensional, normalized, and canonical models.Proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language (Python or Scala).Experience with data governance, metadata management, and data quality.Experience with CI/CD practices and DevOps principles.Superb communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills.Experience with Apache Beam, Spark, or Kafka preferred.Experience with Collibra or other data governance tools preferred.
