Senior Child Life Specialist

Plays a vital role in providing quality Child Life Services on a daily basis to patients and families; some of these tasks include direct, indirect and nondirect services. Responsible for providing therapeutic play sessions to the most highly assessed patients and assisting with other patients, as needed. Also responsible for attending meetings, fundraising
events and working on projects such as Wishes, seasonal events, educating/training staff, students, volunteers and donors. Assists the Child Life Supervisor with any services provided by the Child Life department, as necessary. 

Work requires the knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Child Life, Child Development, Psychology or closely related field and a minimum of 5 years working as a Certified Child Life Specialist. Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) certification required.
BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required. Work requires the analytical ability to resolve complex problems requiring the use of basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles and in-depth, experienced-based knowledge. Work requires the ability to educate patients and their families or perform other duties requiring a comparable level of communication skill.
Effective January 2019, St. Joseph’s Health requires all employee certifications for Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) to be granted through the American Heart Association.
