The Sponsored Brands Advertiser Control team builds and owns core science solutions that make advertising more effective and accessible. We develop advanced ML solutions focusing on three core areas: intelligent campaign creation and management, AI-driven performance optimization, and predictive analytics for campaign effectiveness. Our systems make complex advertising decisions simple and intuitive for advertisers while maximizing their return on investment.
We're seeking an experienced Senior Applied Scientist with expertise in GenAI/LLM technologies who is passionate about driving customer benefit through data-driven decision making and scientific innovation. You'll collaborate with a talented team to integrate LLM and generative AI capabilities into our existing systems, driving step changes in recommendations, forecasting and optimization workflows. You will invent new experiences and influence customer-facing shopping experiences to help suppliers grow their retail business and the auction dynamics that leverage native advertising; this is your opportunity to work within the fastest-growing businesses across all of Amazon! Define a long-term science vision for our advertising business, driven fundamentally from our customers' needs, translating that direction into specific plans for research and applied scientists, as well as engineering and product teams. This role combines science leadership, organizational ability, technical strength, product focus, and business understanding.
Key job responsibilities
* Serve as science lead and drive the scientific vision and roadmap for GenAI-powered advertising solutions. Set technical direction for agentic workflows that enhance advertiser interactions. Lead evaluation and selection of LLM technologies based on business impact and technical feasibility.
* Lead the end to end design, implementation and experimentation of high-impact, high complexity scientific solutions. Architect end-to-end GenAI solutions that balance innovation with production reliability. Define and implement experimentation frameworks to validate GenAI solutions. Ensure solutions meet performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency requirements.
* Collaborate with peer scientists across organizations to identify and implement best practices and shared solutions. Evaluate and benchmark state-of-the-art LLM approaches against business needs. Lead peer reviews and technical discussions to optimize solution complexity.
* Partner with Product Management to translate customer needs into technical solutions. Conduct deep-dive analyses to identify high-impact GenAI opportunities. Design and implement success metrics to measure customer benefits and business impact.
* Guide software engineers on technical requirements and implementation. Establish best practices for LLM integration in production systems. Develop risk assessment frameworks and mitigation strategies for LLM-specific risks (hallucinations, bias, etc.)
* Be an org-level thought leader in LLM and GenAI. Mentor team members in GenAI implementation and best practices
* Represent the team in Amazon's machine learning community. Contribute to internal and external conferences. Drive innovation through hackathons and collaborative projects.
Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of building machine learning models for business application experience
- PhD, or Master's degree and 6+ years of applied research experience
- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
- Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with large scale distributed systems such as Hadoop, Spark etc.
- * PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field, with a focus on Gen AI, LLM or reinforcement learning
- * Programming skills in Python and experience with deep learning frameworks such as Tensor Flow or PyTorch
- * Experience with large scale data analysis tools such as PySpark etc.
- * Pragmatic problem-solver, with the ability to think creatively and critically about complex problems
- * Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $150,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $260,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
