Senior Analyst/Manager, Credit Risk Management

**Credit Risk Management (CRM)** is an independent group under the direction of the Chief Credit Officer (CCO), who reports to the Chief Risk Officer (CRO), responsible for the enterprise-wide credit risk oversight at Manulife. CRM has the mandate to promote a culture of risk awareness across all levels of the organization and has the responsibility to establish and maintain Manulife’s credit risk management framework.
This position will play a key role in the Credit Risk Management group’s mandate of Portfolio Oversight of the Manulife General Account by way of Portfolio Stress Testing and Independent Credit Review of various Investment desks.
**Positional Responsibilities:**
**_Portfolio Oversight & Stress Testing_**
+ Provide oversight of the Manulife Bonds, Commercial Mortgages and Alternative Investments portfolio through stress testing exercise using various tools such as Risk Frontier, Portfolio Studio, etc.
+ Perform what-if analysis, multi-factor stress tests and reverse stress tests to identify credit rating migration, credit/expected losses, earnings/reserve impacts and capital requirements under various stress macroeconomic conditions.
+ Prepare detailed spreadsheets, tables and reports to summarize stress test findings
+ Draft power-point slides and present the stress-test results and findings to Senior Management, including Credit Committee.
+ Perform ad-hoc analysis related to the Stress Tests upon request from Investment Teams, Portfolio Managers and Senior Executives.
+ Provide overall guidance and support in the maintenance (including quarterly data loading) of various supporting tools (e.g. Risk Frontier, Portfolio Studio) used in the stress testing process.
**_Credit Analysis_**
+ Be a contributing member of the team to undertake credit related reviews across multiple investment desks.
+ Perform detailed credit analysis from various industry sectors and opine on a) the appropriateness of the assigned credit rating, b) the adequacy of the risk and credit analysis included in the review, and c) any emerging risks inherent in the credit.
+ Prepare and draft summary reports to include CRM’s detailed findings, issues, and observations related to the completed credit reviews.
**_Ad-hoc Research & Analysis_**
+ Prepare independent industry and credit research reports on topical issues and trends, assessing their impact on Manulife’s credit portfolio.
+ Stay abreast of economic and market environment and proactively identify emerging risks relevant to Manulife’s investment portfolio.
**_Performance Tracking and Monitoring of the Alternative Long Duration Assets (ALDA) portfolio_**
+ Assist with the maintenance of the risk rating framework and process, as well as collecting, reviewing, and summarizing data that monitors the degree of risk present in individual ALDA investment assets.
+ Prepare ALDA performance tracking and monitoring reports using spreadsheet models.
+ Maintain the ALDA performance tracking spreadsheets, making changes and suggesting improvements as necessary.
**_Policies and Procedures_**
+ Assist with the review and updating of miscellaneous policies and procedures
+ Help maintain investment guidelines and investment policies up to date
**Required Qualifications:**
+ Minimum 3-4 years of experience in credit research or credit analysis in a financial institution.
+ An undergraduate degree in Business, Economics, or Finance.
+ Excellent data analysis skills using large spreadsheets; ability to summarize a large amount of data into concise reports and presentations for senior management.
+ High proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint and Word) applications.
+ Strong prioritization skills and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
+ Strong communication skills (oral and written).
+ Collaborative approach and strong interpersonal skills.
