Join Intuit’s Conversational AI team, a fast-paced and forward-thinking group based in Mountain View, focused on enabling customers to seamlessly accomplish their goals through cutting-edge natural language chat experiences across our self-help channels. As an AI Scientist, you will drive applied research and experimentation to design, evaluate, and advance AI systems that meaningfully improve customer experiences at scale.
Our team is building an agentic framework that combines Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) with Large Language Model (LLM)–based quality monitoring and evaluation systems. This architecture enables rapid iteration, scientific measurement, and continuous improvement of intelligent digital assistance.
This is an opportunity to make a direct and lasting impact by shaping the intelligence behind Intuit’s conversational experiences—working alongside a team passionate about translating state-of-the-art AI research into real-world customer value.
Responsibilities
Advance Applied AI Research: Design, prototype, and evaluate novel approaches in NLP, retrieval, RAG, and LLM-based systems to improve conversational quality, accuracy, and adaptability.
Experiment and Measure: Develop rigorous offline and online evaluation methodologies, define success metrics, and analyze results to guide model and system improvements.
Build Intelligent Systems: Partner with engineers to translate research ideas into scalable, production-ready AI solutions.
Drive Innovation: Stay current with emerging research and technologies in LLMs, agentic systems, and quality monitoring, and apply them pragmatically to real customer problems.
Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with product, engineering, and design teams to align scientific exploration with business and customer outcomes.
Qualifications
Strong coding skills in Python, Java, or equivalent languages, with experience building research prototypes and production-adjacent systems.
Hands-on experience in NLP, retrieval systems, or core machine learning, including model training, fine-tuning, and evaluation.
Solid understanding of ML experimentation workflows, metrics, and trade-offs.
Demonstrated ability to rapidly iterate, learn from data, and deliver insights in a high-velocity, ambiguous environment
MS or PhD in a quantitative field (e.g., Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Math, Operations Research, Physics, etc.).
4+ years of industry experience with Data Science/AI (or 2+ years with a PhD).
Strong proficiency in Python or R, with expertise in modern analytical libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, pandas, numpy).
Proficiency in SQL and experience working with large-scale data ecosystems (e.g., Hive, SparkSQL, etc.).
