Senior Accounting - Toronto HO US Financial Control

Job Description

WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

The Senior Accountant role supports the Capital Markets Broker Financial Control team on corporate accounting responsibilities, month end close, financial reporting and ad hoc tasks as assigned.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Point of contact for the US Financial Control and Regulatory reporting teams for the monthly reportingResponsible for recording and settling intercompany transactions including chargebacks from other entitiesWork closely with the Transfer Pricing team and global finance counterparts to ensure accuracy and consistency for intercompany transactionsPrepare intercompany loan interest schedule, book associated monthly interest and settle interest when dueDaily SharePoint Loan review and confirmationMonitoring of intergroup reconciliations, investigate and clear breaks on a timely basis, prior to month end closeeGLIS clearingResponsible for the preparation and maintenance of regulatory reports including ROU and FAS5 reporting and variance analysisResponsible for reviewing and booking accruals for various expenses including market data, legal, audit and regulatory accruals ensuring accuracy with proper controls in placeResponsible for the preparation and maintenance of Legal Reserve and Provisions roll-forward schedulesResponsible for the monthly reporting of lease activities and disclosure requirementsWork with operations to process journal entries for clearing fees, brokerage charges and other applicable invoicesPrepare and maintain proper supporting documentation for all journal entries processedReview assigned balance sheet accounts for illogicals, booking reclass entries where neededPrepare month end reconciliations including substantiation of assigned balance sheet accounts for monthly sign offsAssist with updating procedures for all tasks and work on continuous process improvementsEnsure adherence to accounting requirements and firm policies

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

Bachelor’s degree in accounting4+ years general accounting experience with exposure to month end closeStrong analytical / problem solving skillsWell organized with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environmentAbility to develop and maintain relationships with teams across the firm, including operations, product control, technology, and head office teamsStrong excel skills and aptitude to learning new system

Knowledge PeopleSoft general ledger preferredCPAFinancial Services industry experience
