Senior Accountant
Job Title: Senior AccountantJob Description In this role, you will have the opportunity to own the monthly close process, support financial and regulatory reporting, and act as a subject matter expert on complex accounting issues. You will be the go-to person for financial reporting and presentations during monthly close meetings. Additionally, you will be responsible for complex analysis and articulating financial and regulatory implications. You will lead efforts in enhancing financial reporting processes, policies, systems, and internal control environments while recommending process changes and improvements. Your contributions will extend to new initiatives and product launches, mentoring and training staff, and managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Responsibilities + Own the monthly close process and support financial and regulatory reporting. + Act as a subject matter expert on complex accounting issues and provide solutions. + Present financial reports in monthly close meetings. + Conduct complex analysis and articulate financial and regulatory implications. + Enhance financial reporting processes, policies, systems, and internal controls. + Recommend process changes and improvements. + Contribute to new initiatives and product launches. + Mentor and train staff while reviewing the work of junior colleagues. + Manage relationships with various internal and external stakeholders. + Perform bank reconciliations, credit card accruals, and G&A month-end accruals. + Handle prepaids setup and amortization, lease accounting, and full ownership of PPE and capitalized leases accounting. + Manage prepaid expenses, R&D expenses, and accruals for month-end. + Work on intercompany and transfer pricing with the tax team. + Perform bank reconciliations for corporate entities. + Reconcile payroll accounting to bank statements. Essential Skills + 3+ years of previous accounting experience, ideally within tech or financial services. + Proficiency in journal entries, month-end activities, and financial reporting. + Knowledge of IFRS and bank reconciliations. + Strong communication skills and ability to work with several internal groups. + Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. + Professional designation (CPA, CA, ACCA). + Advanced Excel skills, including VLOOKUPs. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience with NetSuite and Oracle. + CPA, ACCA, or MBA qualifications. + Familiarity with treasury systems. Work Environment You will report to the Finance Manager and work within a small team. The role involves interacting with various groups within the brokerage group, including engineering, product, and other finance/accounting teams. The standard working hours are from 9 AM to 5 PM, with some flexibility on start times. The position is open to remote work, although presence is preferred for meetings. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Toronto, Ontario. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr.
