Candidates must reside in one of the following states: West Virginia, Virginia, Texas, Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Washington D.C., New York, New Jersey, Arizona, North Carolina, Georgia, or South Dakota.
Candidates based in North Central WV or the Northern VA (NOVA) area preferred.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Security Operations Engineer will be responsible for implementing and maintaining security technologies throughout their lifecycle, including configuration, deployment, monitoring, and optimization. The Security Operations Engineer will work under the direction of the Security Operations Manager to execute security initiatives across all technical areas including network, data, application, cloud, IAM, mobile and endpoint security. This role requires strong technical expertise in current and emerging security threats and technologies, with a focus on hands-on implementation and troubleshooting. The Security Operations Engineer will work collaboratively with IT teams, vendors, and security analysts to implement and maintain security policies and protocols that ensure compliance with industry regulations and security standards.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Implement and maintain security policies, protocols, and procedures as directed by the Security Operations Manager. Execute daily security operations activities including monitoring, incident response, and system maintenance. Configure, deploy, and maintain security technologies and tools across the organization. Monitor and respond to alerts from Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS), and Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) tools. Respond to and investigate security incidents and events to protect corporate IT assets, including intellectual property, regulated data, and the company's reputation. Perform security assessments and vulnerability scans, document findings, and assist in implementing remediation measures. Generate technical reports on security incidents, vulnerabilities, and system performance for review by management. Provide technical support during security emergencies and incident response activities. Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve security issues and breaches following established procedures. Deploy, configure, and maintain information security technologies including endpoint protection, application security controls, network security devices, cloud security tools, and identity management solutions. Research emerging threats and attack vectors and assist in developing and implementing mitigating controls. Stay current on cybersecurity technology trends, vulnerabilities, and best practices through continuous learning. Support cybersecurity risk identification and assessment activities, including tracking End of Life/End of Vendor Service software and hardware. Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams to ensure security requirements are integrated into technology projects. Document technical configurations, procedures, and security architecture changes. Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned by the Security Operations Manager.EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Security, or other relevant discipline. Minimum 8+ years’ experience working as a threat & vulnerability management expert and developing or executing programs. Minimum 8+ years demonstrated experience managing firewalls, switches, routers and other security devices or tools, engineering security solutions including Zero Trust, network infrastructure and data integration/management. Knowledge of Application Development, Network Engineering, Operating systems (UNIX, Windows), and cloud security (e.g. Google, AWS, Azure). Demonstrated experience with Azure and AWS network configurations, services and capabilities and ability to configure and secure those configurations and services. Experience with vulnerability management tools, such as Tenable Nessus, Rapid7, and others. Extensive knowledge of computer security architectures and protocols, including firewalls, DMZs, remote access/VPN, wireless LANs, penetration testing, web security, and Windows operating systems, DDoS third party services, and others. Subject Matter Expert in the area of patch management and threat mitigation strategies Strong network administration skills in Cisco IOS, Palo Alto Networks or other Next Generation firewall systems CISSP, CISA, CISM, or certifications preferred.ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
Experience assisting in the creation of enterprise information security and risk management documents (policies, standards, baselines, guidelines, and procedures). Strong experience in network infrastructure, cloud and on premise, network systems, operating systems, system hardening and secure configuration frameworks. Must be able to work in a fast paced and changing environment while handling multiple tasks, priorities, and directives. Capable of working under pressure. Strong written and communication and presentation skills, and the ability to effectively relate security-related concepts to a broad range of technical and non-technical staff.
