THE ROLE

The Security Manager oversees 24/7 facility, daily and event operations of the security departments for the Grand Rapids Venues including, Van Andel Arena, DeVos Place, DeVos Performance Hall, and future Acrisure Amphitheater and Amway Stadium. The role ensures a safe, secure, and organized environment for guests, clients, talent, partners, staff, and assets while managing parking logistics, staffing, revenue reporting, and policy compliance. This position requires a strong leader who can create and enforce policies, enhance customer service, manage personnel, and work a flexible schedule that includes nights, weekends, holidays, and extended event hours.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Security Management

Directly supervises and oversees the contracted security staff and ensures the highest level of safety and guest service.Plans staffing requirements based on event needs, crowds, talent, and building operations.Conducts Risk assessments for all events utilizing the Legends Global Risk assessment tool.Supports and enforces security policies, emergency procedures, staffing guidelines, and standard operating practices.Acts as liaison with law enforcement, fire department, first responders, and regulatory agencies.Handles high-priority, sensitive, or emergency incidents personally or through designated leadership.Oversee contracted security providers performance, corrective action, training, coaching, evaluations, and professional development.Manages incident documentation, reporting, Lost & Found procedures.Manages, updates and creates policies and procedures as required by Legends Global best practices.Assists in development and monitoring of security budget and financial controls.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Will be assigned overtime.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience & Skills and Abilities  

Required

Associate degree in law enforcement or related fieldMinimum two (2) years of supervisory experience in event security ORMinimum five (5) years successful supervisory experience in security, law enforcement, or related discipline.

Preferred

Bachelor’s degree or graduation from accredited law enforcement academy.Experience managing a large public assembly facility (arena, stadium, convention center, etc.).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of:

Crowd management, incident response, access control, hazard mitigation, and safety protocols.Relevant local, state, and federal laws affecting venue and event security operations.Budget monitoring, staff scheduling, documentation, and operational planning.

Ability to:

Communicate effectively in person and in writing.Lead, coach, discipline, and motivate teams.De-escalate conflicts and handle sensitive incidents professionally.Work under pressure, multitask, and meet stringent event deadlines.Maintain confidentiality, integrity, professionalism, and fairness.

Skills:

Use of computers, radios, access control systems, CCTV, and communication tools.Operation of motor vehicles security equipment.

Location: On Site: DeVos Place, DeVos Performance Hall, Van Andel Arena, and future Acrisure Amphitheater and Amway Soccer Stadium.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Tasks are performed with moderate supervision without assistance for 80% of the workday; pushing and pulling doors open, lifting, stooping, bending and lifting at least 50 lbs. Walking for long distances and standing for up to 85% of workday. This position may require work inside or outside of the building, as needed by events. Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends and holidays, in addition to normal business hours. Employees may be scheduled to work until 12:00am or later. Must be able to pass background check. Employee should use precautions & follow safety guidelines.
