The RSSL Material Sciences SuperLab performs a wide range of analytical analyses for a variety of food, consumer, FMCG and life sciences companies. RSSL are looking for a highly motivated scientist to join our dynamic and growing Material Sciences team. The individual would hold responsibility for performing techniques ranging from Physical Characterisation, Packaging assessment (evaluating the mechanical, barrier and optical properties of packaging materials, and evaluating packaging integrity) and / or Microstructure, based on previous expertise. The successful candidate will conduct projects for a range of clients from the FMCG, R&D and life sciences sector, alongside our parent company Mondelez. Working on innovation projects, research projects and routine analytical work, both with large companies, alongside start up organisations, to progress with new technologies. The role as Scientist II is to be responsible for performing and leading technical projects from within the Material Sciences laboratory. This role will take specific responsibility required to both execute and project manage analytical projects predominantly involving physical / microstructure / packaging assessment techniques. To succeed in this role, you will use strong teamwork skills to collaborate with others to perform analyses and report work in accordance with analytical standards, ensuring effective organisation of your assigned workload. The successful individual would perform a range of routine and investigative analysis. As an innovative and self-motivated scientist, you will have the opportunity to directly influence projects and interact with customers in cross-functional project meetings. You may be expected to review technical work and provide training to less experienced team members. Good organisation and communication skills are required to work with external clients and internal stakeholders against a range of product types. **What you will bring** **Technical** + Always provide high quality customer service by ensuring effective organisation ofwork programs, integrity of analytical data generated and timely/accurate provision of reports with analytical findings/results. + Perform a range of routine and investigative analysis using various techniquesindependently. Techniques could include particle characterisation by laser diffraction, thermal (DSC, DVS, TGA), texture, XRD, Microscopy (Light/optical microscopy, confocal microscopy, Raman, SEM, FTIR) or packaging assessment techniques (tensile, compression testing, gas permeation measurements – oxygen transmission rate, water transmission rate and burst / leak testing). (Experience in all these techniques is not a requirement, however knowledge in a number of these would be beneficial). + Perform maintenance and troubleshooting of lab equipment. + Perform data checking and provide interpretation of results forprojects. + Generate certificate analysis or external interpretive reports. Presentation of results in both internal and external forums. + Proficient in the use of generic and specific software packages require for the role: Laboratory’s LIMS system, Q-Pulse. + Provide training and supervise junior staff in routine activities and methods. + Take responsibility for elements of specific projects and/or specific areas of general laboratory/sample administration and assigned housekeeping tasks as required. + Will be expected to work in different laboratories if the demand is required. **Communication & Influence** + Work as part of an efficient analytical team + To liaise with clients, stakeholders, business development and line management to ensure effective communication during the project lifecycle. + Participate in client and stakeholder meetings as required + Deliver presentations to technical stakeholders and clients as required + Project manage R&D projects **Quality Health and Safety** + Work to the highest standards of safety and quality by ensuring that appropriate COSHHs, risk assessments and SOPs are understood and followed. + To complete, review and approve assigned quality actions on a timely manner. + Assist with the documentation of SOPs for equipment / tests and generation of necessary risk assessments and COSHH + To maintain a clean, tidy and safe working environment. + Ensure training records are up-to-dateandaccurate. **Experience required:** + Educated to degree level in a relevant scientific discipline or equivalent relevant experience in a laboratory. + Proven theoretical and hands on experience within physical properties laboratories or using physical techniques. **Travel requirements:** **Travel may** **be required** **to support manufacturing sites on an** **adhoc** **basis** In return for your commitment, drive and enthusiasm, we offer an attractive benefits package within a highly successful international business that offers financial rewards and resources, including:  + Opportunities to learn and develop  + Performance Related Bonus scheme  + Contributory pension (up to 11% employer contribution)  + Life assurance  + 27 days holiday allowance (possibility to buy 5 extra days) + bank holidays + Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)  + A flexible benefits programme (Gym discounts, private health insurance, restaurant discounts, etc).    At RSSL, flexibility is one of our key priorities.
