SCA Telecommunications Mechanic I (MCCONBTS-2026-24514):

 

Bowhead is seeking a Telecommunications Mechanic (TM I) to support operation, maintenance, and sustainment of the Base Telecommunications System (BTS) at McConnell Air Force Base, Kansas. The TM I will support inside plant (ISP) and outside plant (OSP) telecommunications infrastructure, respond to trouble tickets and work orders, perform preventive maintenance inspections, and assist with cable installation, testing, and documentation in support of 24/7 mission-critical communications. This position supports both the 22d Communications Squadron and Air National Guard mission requirements under the One Base, One Network (1B1N) construct.

Responsibilities

Essential functions will include: 

Perform operation, maintenance, and basic repair of inside plant (ISP) and outside plant (OSP) telecommunications infrastructure, including copper and fiber cabling systems

Respond to routine, priority, and emergency trouble tickets and work orders within contractually required timeframes, including on-call and after-hours support as required

Install, terminate, label, test, and document telecommunications cabling and associated equipment in accordance with OEM, TIA/EIA, DoD, and Air Force standards

Assist with preventive maintenance inspections (PMIs) of manholes, handholes, pedestals, building entrance terminals, and telecommunications spaces

Support cable locating, staking, and marking activities in support of civil engineering projects and dig permits

Use telecommunications test equipment to troubleshoot and verify circuit integrity and service restoration

Update and maintain accurate records in government systems (e.g., CAIRS, CIPS/CVC) and work order documentation

Comply with all safety, security, environmental, and installation access requirements while performing work in indoor, outdoor, and confined-space environment.

Other duties as assigned Qualifications A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) required at a minimum, however completion of technical training, apprenticeship, or coursework in telecommunications, electronics, structured cabling, or information technology is preferred.At least one (1) to three (3) years of experience supporting telecommunications, structured cabling, ISP/OSP, or related technical infrastructure is required; any additional equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered for highly qualified candidates.Must possess at least a basic knowledge of telecommunications systems, including copper and fiber cabling.Ability to install, terminate, label, and test telecommunications cabling in accordance with industry standardsFamiliarity with telecommunications tools and test equipment (e.g., tone generators, cable testers, multimeters)Ability to read and interpret basic drawings, work orders, and installation documentation Working knowledge of safety practices related to telecommunications work, including confined space and electrical safetyAbility to comply with all installation access, security, and safety requirementsAbility to obtain and maintain required base access credentialsBasic to intermediate level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPointAbility to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contactsStrong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must currently hold a security clearance at the Secret level.  US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
