Responsibilities

The Sanitation Supervisor leads the development and execution of sanitation programs to ensure food safety, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence. This role oversees sanitation across all shifts, leveraging digital tools, sanitation best practices, and cross-functional collaboration to maintain a clean, safe, and audit-ready facility.  The Supervisor/Superintendent fosters a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement while mentoring sanitation team leadership and collaborating effectively across departments. This role goes beyond task execution, serving as a model of the company’s core values and reinforcing the belief that safety and efficiency are foundational to operational success.  A steadfast commitment to safety is essential. The Sanitation Supervisor actively
supports and champions the company’s Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) initiatives, ensuring that all team members work in an environment that is productive, secure, and conducive to well-being, and setting a high standard for others to follow.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Sanitation Program Management
• Develop, verify, and validate SSOPs and sanitation procedures with the cross-functional team.
• Manage applicable Food Safety Quality Systems programs, and Sanitation resources.
(ex. Sanitation chemicals, equipment and tools, PPE and uniforms, etc.)
• Oversee Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS) and environmental cleaning.
• Apply industry-recognized CIP/COP and wet/dry cleaning techniques.
• Manage sanitation aspects of construction and special events.
• Ensure cleaning to microbiological standards across the facility.

o Cleaning the entire facility to a microbiological level
o Cross-contamination and daily contamination
o Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS)
o Environmental cleaning
o End of cycle cleaning
o Operational cleaning
o Plant janitorial/housekeeping


Regulatory & Audit Compliance
• Ensure compliance with FSMA, USDA, HACCP, cGMPs, GFSI, and other applicable standards.
• Maintain audit readiness and support third-party inspections.
• Validate, verify, and monitor sanitation systems and requirements.
• Ensure compliance with HACCP/FSP prerequisite programs, including Sanitation and cGMPs.
• Work with cross-functional teams to implement industry-recognized sanitary design principles and manage plant zoning/separation.


Leadership & Team Development
• Develop the team to execute sanitation principles effectively.
• Coach and collaborate with Production and Quality leadership.
• Provide training on sanitation principles and regulatory requirements.
• Develop staffing plans and manage sanitation labor hours and resources.
• Supervise and mentor sanitation team leaders and cross-functional teams.


Cross-functional Collaboration
• Partner with operations, maintenance, engineering, and quality.
• Manage sanitation-related decisions and continuous improvement.
• Provide research, guidance, and technical support to the plant in areas of sanitation.
• Responsible for managing the sanitation chemical vendor partnership and collaboration.


Digital Tools & Data Management
• Analyze sanitation data to identify trends and drive improvements.
• Work directly with chemical providers to address corrective actions.
• Utilize sanitation software for scheduling, verification, and documentation.


Qualifications

EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
• High School Diploma required; bachelor’s degree or equivalent certification preferred.
• >2 years of experience in food manufacturing sanitation; leadership experience required.
• PCQI certification or HACCP training preferred.
• Understanding sanitary design and zoning principles.
• Willingness to work flexible hours and attend off-site training.
• Ability to lead cross-functional teams in a regulated environment.
• Experience with sanitation software and digital documentation systems.
• Proficient computer skills (MS Office; Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
• Experience with sanitation verification tools (e.g., ATP, microbial swabbing).
• Working knowledge of sanitation chemicals, SDS, and safe handling procedures.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to perform physical tasks including walking, standing, crouching, lifting (25-35lbs), twisting, climbing, and reaching.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Areas of facility may include controlled temperature zones, including areas with refrigeration and noise levels requiring PPE.
