Safety Specialist

Job Description

The Safety Professional will report to the Corporate Safety Director and is tasked with educating field personnel on correct safety procedures while ensuring compliance with safety policies. This role involves travel to various project sites, typically within a 3-4 hour distance, for new hire trainings and site visits.

Responsibilities

Conduct site safety audits to identify and correct unsafe conditions and behaviors.Prescribe corrective actions and develop training sessions for recurring audit findings.Investigate incidents, generate reports, and assist in accident/incident investigations.Create, conduct, and document Tool Box Talks.Conduct task training as planned and needed.Ensure all required signage is properly posted.Stop work to address serious safety deficiencies, violations, or unsafe practices and file disciplinary actions with documentation.Provide leadership with a focus on safe work practices and pre-task planning.Maintain a positive work atmosphere through effective communication with all levels of personnel.Assist in planning and implementing project safety needs.Participate in operational planning to eliminate hazards.Monitor adherence to safety portions of OPS Plans and collaborate with foremen to correct issues.Investigate and procure new safety systems/equipment and educate crews as needed.Conduct on-site inspections and control hazardous conditions or unsafe activities through coaching.Reward and recognize field personnel for outstanding safety initiatives.Participate in daily morning huddles and end-of-shift meetings when possible.Educate foremen on proper daily work plans/JHA procedures and hold them accountable.Assist with or lead weekly safety meetings.Continue education in safety through seminars, meetings, and higher education.Network and stay updated on safety topics and issues relevant to the construction industry.Perform additional duties as directed by supervisors.

Essential Skills

Bachelor's degree in Safety or equivalent experience.Possession of one of the following certifications: GSP, CSP, ASP, BCSP, OHST, CHST.At least 1 year of construction safety experience.Experience in construction, solar, and safety specialization.Willingness to travel and conduct trainings on site.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Strong communication and leadership skills.Proficiency in conducting safety audits and inspections.Ability to develop and deliver training sessions.Experience with task-specific safety systems and equipment.

Work Environment

The Safety Professional will be working in an electrical contracting environment with 500 union employees and 100 non-union office staff. Projects include data centers, solar farms, and large industrial plants. The role may require work in a job trailer and involves travel with per diem and mileage compensation. The position is based on a 50-hour work week with potential weekend work and overtime compensation. The company values a strong safety culture focused on mentorship and support.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Madison, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $33.00 - $42.00/hr.
