Safety Officer
Job Description Plan, coordinate, implement, and administer a comprehensive safety management program for the City. Evaluate risk/loss exposures and recommend strategies to City management; advise department heads and supervisors on liability and safety matters. Draft and update safety policies, procedures, and protocols; support safety committees and incentive programs. Conduct citywide safety orientation and deliver First Aid/CPR and related training. Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of OSHA standards; assist departments with compliance; participate in OSHA inspections; maintain required records. Perform workplace inspections; identify hazards and non‑compliance; recommend corrective actions. Investigate and analyze accidents, incidents, and hazardous material spills; produce findings and prevention recommendations. Assist with the City’s workers’ compensation program to minimize lost time and fraudulent claims. Administer the City’s employee drug testing program. Support disaster preparedness planning and interdepartmental coordination; represent the department at City/community meetings. Respond to inquiries and complaints related to risk and safety; prepare reports, minutes, and safety communications. Skills and Requirements Bachelor’s degree in OSHA, Risk Management, or a related field and 5+ years of risk management experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid SC Driver's License Thorough knowledge of risk management, occupational health & safety, OSHA compliance, and municipal operations. Ability to plan and implement safety programs; conduct investigations; analyze data and write clear, concise reports. Strong training and presentation skills; proficiency with modern office technology and recordkeeping.
