Job Title: Safety Manager - Construction

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Safety Manager to oversee safety operations in high-profile construction projects. This role involves ensuring compliance with safety guidelines and protocols, coordinating with safety leadership, and maintaining a safety-first culture.

Project Location: Crystal Lake, IL. LOCAL Candidates only. NO Per-diem provided.

Responsibilities

Implement the project's safety guidelines, site-specific safety plan, and client-specific safety requirements.Coordinate with the regional safety lead to ensure the availability of necessary safety signage and PPE.Confirm completion of required safety orientation training for all personnel scheduled to work on-site.Gather and organize documentation from subcontractors and trade partners, including Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and training certifications.Conduct daily safety audits using the designated digital platform, including annotated photos.Share audit findings and corrective actions with the project team for visibility and timely resolution.Submit a minimum of two Safety Observation Reports (SORs) per week.Engage with crews and monitor safety practices for 60–70% of the time.Attend daily huddles, coordination meetings, foremen’s meetings, and preconstruction meetings.Lead or support weekly all-hands safety meetings, including preparation of materials and attendance tracking.Spot-check safety documentation during site visits and review Daily Action Plans (DAPs), High-Risk Activity Plans, Hot work permits, and checklists.Notify the project team and regional safety lead of any incidents or near-misses immediately.Assist in incident investigations and review reports prior to submission.Create a 'Lessons Learned' summary for each incident or near miss.Conduct site-specific safety orientations for all trade partners.Maintain regular communication with subcontractor safety representatives.Participate in or lead planning meetings for high-risk activities.Maintain clear communication with the project team, safety leadership, and trade partners.

Essential Skills

Safety management degree or equivalent qualification.Minimum of 8 years of experience in construction safety, with at least 2 years in a team management role.Experience supporting data center construction projects is highly preferred.Excellent communication skills across all levels of project teams.Ability to present to executives and groups of 100+ people.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Reliable, proactive, and able to support and align with the project schedule.Ability to accommodate project schedules with start times as early as 5:00 or 6:00 AM.Flexibility to work between 40 - 50 hours per week.Must remain on-site during active construction hours.CSP or CHST certification required.

Work Environment

The work environment is primarily on-site in Grayslake, IL, with a balance of 70% fieldwork and 30% office work. The role requires daily presence on-site during active construction hours, with flexibility to accommodate extended hours if project needs require it.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Crystal Lake, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $75.00/hr.
