Safety Manager

About this position: Safety Manager – Anchorage, AK

 This position will be assisting with writing plans, safety training, enforcing safety programs, and other duties as assigned in support of Environmental and Construction Projects. Manages, monitors, and advises Project Manager on all matters related to the Health and Safety of personnel and issues affecting/ impacting the Environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Travel to job sites to conduct a variety of safety related inspections / tasks Develop site specific safety plans and accident prevention plans Review safety procedures and processes with team members onsite (Activity Hazard Analysis) Certain jobs may require a substantial safety presence Attend meetings as required Assist with writing/reviewing/submitting safety documents for Government approval Ensure regulatory compliance (i.e. OSHA, EM385 1-1, NFPA, ATSSA, ANSI) at the jobsite level

Required (Minimum Necessary) Qualifications

·         Education Requirements: High School Diploma Required, Associate or Bachelors Degree preferred

·         Level of Experience Requirements: Ten Years’ Experience

 

·         EM385 1-1 40 hour Certification (can be obtained after employment)

·         At least ten (10) years of continuous industry safety experience in supervising/managing (safety programs, processes or conducting hazard analyses and developing controls).

·         If the candidate has a third party, nationally accredited safety, and occupational health related certification, the ten (10) years experience will be re-evaluated based on the certifications.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

·         Familiarity with the Microsoft Suite

·         Current favorable National Agency Check with Inquiry (NACI), in accordance with AR 380-67

·         Valid Driver’s License

·         Training in excavation safety, fire safety, health, security, sanitation inspections

·         CPR/1st Aid/AED certification

Work Environment

Work Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Physical Setting: The employee will work in a temperature-controlled office environment, as well as on construction job sites. Job sites may be outdoors, or indoors. During visits to construction job sites, the individual may be exposed to: extreme cold or hot weather conditions, hazardous noise, fall hazards, heights in excess of 10 feet, confined spaces, excavations, live traffic, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, hazardous materials, unexploded ordinance, and dimly lit areas.

Schedule and Flexibility: Core functions will be performed on 5 days per week, 8 hours per day work schedule.  Site visits and field work will require longer shifts depending on the project schedule and location.
