Job Summary
The 5 South Observation Unit is a fast‑paced, team‑focused environment supporting both the Emergency Department and telemetry services. The unit cares for low‑acuity patients who need short‑term monitoring and additional evaluation before determining whether inpatient admission is required. This role is an excellent fit for nurses with experience in Telemetry, Emergency Department, Intermediate Care, ICU/CCU, ambulatory care, or those who are comfortable with basic phlebotomy skills. While not required, this experience supports efficient patient flow and timely diagnostics.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Performs thorough assessments and ongoing reassessments to guide patient care
Develops individualized, evidence‑based plans of care
Provides care aligned with organizational policies, professional standards, and the mission, vision, and values of the organization
Evaluates patient responses and adjusts interventions as needed
Demonstrates strong critical thinking, clinical reasoning, organization, and leadership in all aspects of care
Utilizes blood‑draw skills when needed to support timely lab collection (not a required qualification)
Minimum Education, Training, and Experience Required
Active Kentucky RN license
BCLS required (training available)
ACLS required (training available)
NIH preferred
