Description Position Overview:
The Risk Management Specialist is responsible for analyzing complaints and allegations, gathering facts, information and evidence needed to prove or disprove allegations or incidents that occur throughout the agency. Responsible for assessing incidents that occur throughout the agency and will collaborate with program staff members to provide status updates and corrective action plans. The Risk Management Specialist also communicates and disseminates this information to appropriate oversight agencies to ensure our organization is in compliance with regulatory requirements. The Incident Management Specialist reports directly to the Assistant Director of Compliance & Risk and has regular supervision.
Job Responsibilities:
• Conduct internal risk and compliance internal investigations.
• Collect and evaluate evidence, interview witnesses, victims, and subjects to investigate allegations of employee or foster parent misconduct; corporate compliance complaints; suspected unauthorized review, disclosure or exchange of protected health information; or any other internal administrative concerns.
• Respond to the scene of an incident in a timely fashion as appropriate to collect and preserve evidence.
• Author concise narrative reports to communicate results of investigations.
• Identify systematic issues and contributing factors to reported incidents, allegations or complaints.
• Make remediation recommendations based on investigation results.
• Meet with external authorities to discuss circumstances and facts surrounding investigations.
• Assist with the coordination of investigative activities with the Justice Center, Office of Children & Family Services, NY State Education and OMH relative to abuse investigations, including arrangements for interviews with HGS children and staff, information/documentation gathering and dissemination.
• Ensures that the confidentiality of information gathered during the investigative process is maintained.
• Give testimony and act as expert witness before courts and/or administrative hearings on investigative results when needed.
• Review all Incident Reports for completion, accuracy and classification of events; immediate notification of problem areas to programs/supervisors to ensure client safety and appropriate follow-up.
• Monitors program response to incidents relative to compliance with agency policy and procedure and regulatory / accreditation requirements
• Assist in coordination of special investigation assignments of trained agency staff; monitor the status of special investigations and coordinate with the Incident Management Committee to arrange special committee meetings as necessary.
• Coordinate agency interaction with the Justice Center, Office of Children & Family Services, NY State Education and OMH relative to abuse investigations, including arrangements for interviews with HGS children and staff, information/document gathering and dissemination.
• Collect and analyze data from Incident/Allegation Reports to identify areas of potential risk.
Qualifications
Job Requirements:
• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in in criminal justice, social work, law or other related field.
• Minimum 1 year of professional investigatory experience or 2 years of experience administering, managing, or auditing quality in child welfare or behavioral health.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals at all levels of agency.
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment in a fast paced and energetic culture. Highly effective in dealing with ambiguity. Must be able to adapt, be sensitive to Agency needs, goodwill and public image.
• Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with extreme discretion.
• Experience in human services, non-profit agency and/or work experience with Office of Family and Children Services preferred.
• Must have a valid driver’s license. Periodic travel required for position.
• Ability to work with an economically and culturally diverse population.
• Maintain training and education of therapeutic intervention techniques employed by the agency
