We are seeking a confident, experienced Respiratory Therapy Charge Leader to provide operational leadership, clinical oversight, and staff development within a high-acuity healthcare environment. This role is ideal for a respiratory therapy professional who thrives in leadership, values accountability, and is committed to excellence in patient care, quality, and team performance.
Role Overview
Reporting to the Respiratory Director, the Charge Leader serves as the on-shift clinical and operational authority for the Respiratory Therapy department. This position balances hands-on clinical practice with supervisory responsibility, exercising independent judgment to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality respiratory care delivery across all patient populations.
Key Leadership Responsibilities
Direct and coordinate daily respiratory therapy operations, including staffing, workflow management, and shift assignments
Provide clinical oversight to ensure adherence to technical standards, quality control measures, and accuracy of test results
Serve as a subject matter expert and escalation resource for complex clinical and operational issues
Lead staff performance management, including evaluations, coaching, and corrective counseling in partnership with the Respiratory Director
Champion staff development through didactic instruction, clinical mentoring, and competency reinforcement
Model professional excellence, accountability, and patient-centered care in a fast-paced environment
Identify operational challenges and contribute solutions through proactive problem-solving and sound clinical judgment
Clinical Responsibilities
Administer respiratory treatments and diagnostic testing as ordered by physicians
Maintain advanced clinical competence while supporting quality and safety initiatives
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy education program
National Board for Respiratory Care credential (RRT preferred)
Minimum of 2 years of respiratory therapy experience, including at least 1 year in a charge or leadership role
Licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in the State of Missouri
Current CPR certification
Professional & Physical Requirements
Strong executive-level communication skills—verbal and written
Ability to lead diverse teams and work effectively with multidisciplinary partners
Knowledge of human development and ability to care for patients across the lifespan
Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds unassisted
