Job Description
The Research Technician I, under general supervision performs entry level, semi-skilled, technical support research work involving performance of routine tasks.Responsibilities:-Collects samples and measurement data from experiments. Implements and maintains data collection and summarization of field trials.-Collects and compiles data. Computes quantitates and extends projections.-Assembles and operates technical equipment.-Performs other duties as assigned.-Assists senior staff members in conducting major field experiments and consults in developing procedures.Field Work:- Mark and establish demonstration/experimental plots-Collect pre- and post-plant soil samples- Collect and process crop samples (biomass and yield)- Apply chemicals including fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, etc.- Collect crop canopy data using crop sensorsData entry and management :-Able to use Microsoft word for report writing-Use Microsoft excel for entering field data-Perform basic statistical analysis such means using any software- Maintain database of weather, soil, and crop data- Shipping and handling of samples-Maintain inventory of research equipment and suppliesLab work:-Process soil samples; sort, dry, grind, etc.-Process crop samples; dry grain or biomass samples, grind samples for lab analysis-Perform simple lab tests on soil samples including pH, electrical conductivity, bulk density, water content, etc.Education and Experience:-High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.-Two years of related experience.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:-Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.Other Requirements:Ability to lift moderately heavy objects. Ability to exert heavy force. Work beyond normal business hours and/or work on weekends.
