Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations._ **Responsibilities:** Technician that will handle the feeding, tagging, and maintenance of >100 colonies of ants. Will involve reception of feeder insects (crickets), feeding and spot-cleaning of all colonies 2-3x per week, and preparation of new nests for routine nest changes. This is a fundamental task in the lab which uses these ants as primary study organisms, takes a considerable amount of time, requires consistency and attention to detail. **ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS** + 25% - **Insect feeding and cage cleaning** . 2-3x weekly feeding of stock colonies, removal of refuse, inspection of colony health. + 20% - **New insect cage preparation** . Involves washing used cages and pouring dental plaster into the washed cages for re-use. + 15% - **Reception and maintenance of feeder insects** (crickets). Involves weekly cleaning of cricket bins, and unpacking and feeding of newly arrived cricket stocks. + 20% - **Marking of newly eclosed insects for aging studies** . Paint marking on new ants on a weekly basis. + 10% - **Washing of lab glassware and other dishes** . Weekly washing of glassware and autoclaving of cleaned glassware when appropriate. + 10 - **Reception and putting away of lab deliveries** . **MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE** + BA or BS in biology or related field. **KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES** + Candidates should have prior exposure to insects; enough to know they are not entomophobic. + Ideally the candidate will have prior knowledge of care for invertebrates.
